Hi now had surgery about to start radiotherapy, taking exemestane, anyone have tips on how to get rid of the hot flushes, thought those were over some years ago lol when I was taking HRT now thrown back in with the hormone tablets,

Emotional and tired I'm coping with.

Thanks

  • Sorry don’t have any tips on how to get rid but I can sympathise! I was told to stop taking hrt when  it was suspected I had cancer. I had hot flushes after about 3 days. Thankfully mine only lasted  3 days. It’s quite bizarre as I’m nearly 70 and never had them before in my life! maybe speak to your allocated nurse? As they are horrible. That’s the flushes not the nurses of course!JoyJoy

  • Hi sorry to hear you are suffering with hot flushes.  I’m sure they are a side effect from your tablet.  I am off Anastrozole at the minute because if side effects.  The flushed were worse on the meds than the menopause and the anxiety was horrendous.  I don’t think there is much they can do as they are oestrogen blockers.  Worth chatting to your breast care nurse.  Don’t suffer in silence xx

  • I am v sorry to hear this. It is really horrible.  I had to stop HRT and went immediately into menopause symptoms with night sweats and sleeplessness completely unmanageable.

I spoke to oncologist and have had a bit of relief by taking a low dose of Venlafaxine. It took about 6 weeks to kick in but has helped. Not as good as HRT but has made an improvement.

    Hope this might help

  • It’s rotten isn’t it. I’ve been trying to manage with lifestyle - diet/exercise/no alcohol etc. That does help to an extent. I’ve had to stop HRT and am absolutely dreading taking the oestrogen blocking tablets after surgery etc. I really don’t want the side effects of antidepressant meds (sometimes they use when HRT not an option) on top of oestrogen blockers, so also interested to see if anyone has any good ideas.  It feels like a kick in the teeth after the ordeal of the treatment pathway.

  • Hi all, I had ear acupuncture at the Maggie’s centre at Addenbrookes, to help with hot flushes (I’m on Anastrozole). It definitely seemed to help, it didn’t get rid of them but they seemed less frequent and less intense. Worth seeing if it’s available in your area. Love and hugs, HFxx

  • Try ladycare magnet (in your pants). Not a cure but helps me - less frequent and less intense now
