Highly suspicious intra-mammary lymph nodes found on PETCT scan.

I have just had surgery for removal of Grade 2 IDC which appears to be a recurrence of DCIS that was treated by mastectomy and silicon implant recon back in 2005. Before the surgery a PETCT scan showed up highly suspicious intra-mammary lymph nodes as well as some in the axillary area. A biopsy was done of one near my mastectomy site and it came back negative. They are hoping that the rest are showing as suspicious due to being reactive to the ruptured implant, which has now been removed. I'm keen to find others who have had this experience to compare the treatment options you were given. Did they do a PETCT scan or MRI? How long did they take to go back to normal? I am worried that silicon in the lymph nodes can obscure cancer with PETCT scan and wondering if I should be asking for an MRI instead. I should add that I am particularly nervous about this because both in 2005 and now in 2022/23 my cancers did not show up on any of the imaging and were only detected by biopsies.

  • Hi  , sorry I haven’t had your experience but wanted to say hi, sorry you’re having this further worry. Also by replying it will bump your post up to the top again and hopefully someone with more knowledge will see it and reply. Love and hugs, HFxx
