As it's a new month thought I would start a new post for those starting chemotherapy this month or are having on going chemotherapy. Hugs to all
Hello..and thank you for this new post. Tomorrow the 5th is my first chemo. I've just done my COVID test - all clear. Ready to get started, but nervous in bagfuls too! Best wishes to all sailing in same boat xx
Hope it goes well for you. In my experience the last lot I had really wasn't that bad.
Thank you. I hope today went well for you. All strength to you on your journey
Off to hospital in bit thanks.
I'll let you know how it goes
Hi Woodwalker
Welcome to the forum. It's only natural that you are nervous but while I won't say chemo is easy it is doable. You will be well looked after by your medical team and the nurses on the chemo ward are lovely and will look after you.
Best of luck with your first chemo session tomorrow and hopefully you won't have any side effects.
Best wishes
Daisy53
Thank you very much Daisy53. Finding this forum has been a brilliant help. I'm trying to think of chemo as a positive step towards the future..a step and a day at a time x
Completely natural to be nervous of the unknown. But as daisy53 said it is so doable. I had 4 cycles of ec and 3 cycles of docetaxel earlier this year and while I had some side effects it was nowhere near as bad as hubby and I thought it was going to be. You will get given loads of medications your first cycle to combat side effects and if they don't work make sure you tell nurses so they can amend. Keep a diary so if you have side effects you can tell them. Remember your red card team aren't only there in case of emergency they can be a good point of contact to answer any questions. I used them to ask of ai could take cold medications etc when I thought I had a cold. Take your anti sickness meds before you are actually sick.
Biggest tip I got from my nursing team when I went for first appt was if you don't feel well enough to get out of bed then call your red card team as this isn't right. And although they say on red card if temp gets above 38 degrees call I was actually told 37.5. And that proved to be right as I had one bout of sepsis and my temp only got to 37.5. Ended up in hospital overnight.
Also Don't be a stranger on here. Although everyone chemo journey is very individual there are sometimes common issues which people can help with.
