Hi all,

Anyone had Lymphedema in their breast?  I had lumpectomy and mammoplasty Feb 2022 cancer in right side followed by 5 sessions of RT. All in all doing ok but currently have shingles on right breast which seems to be improving with antivirals but GP was concerned about dimpling on breast spoke to BCN and emailed photos and they say looks like Lymphodema and will get me an appt. This has come as a surprise as ever since op I'm sure it's been like that looks like the pores are larger than normal and thought that was from op, breast is no bigger.  Anyone know what they are going to suggest...massaging?

Thanks x

  • yeah that is swelling, mine was like that for months, ops in march and april,

first three weeks it ached a bit, but be

cause there was no obvious accumulation in one spot, i waited did some lymph massage and wore a sports bra that compressed the boob a bit (not really tight but good firm stretchy hold) when i went for second, it wasnt achy anymore and surgeon said yeah ok, good bra for it.

it only really went down in last few weeks of july, imagine the radio may delay the reabsorbing

there are some massage techniques they can help you with but it is time really, think i still have wee bit at original site

  • Hi, yes, I have swelling and a few lumps, diagnosed as lymphoedema. Our hospital has a “late effects clinic” which I was referred to and they showed me the massage technique.  Apparently swimming and Nordic walking are also good (I do neither of these). It's definitely worth getting checked out as the lymph nodes carry infection out of our bodies so when they stop working there's an increased risk.  Best wishes

  • Hi there I've got the same redness in boob doctor at the clinc said the skin looks like chicken skin and the lumps and bumps were lymphodema I'm waiting to be referred I guess it's because I had 5 lymph nodes removed and your body struggling to remove fluid hope this helps you too and good luck with recovery xx

  • Thanks for that Djct, they called today to say they will make me an appt to check and give me some techniques to help.  Still surprised as only 1 lymph node was removed but hey, we just get on with it Slight smile

  • Thanks Irishgirl16,they called today to say they will make me an appt to check and give me some techniques to help.  Still surprised as only 1 lymph node was removed but hey, we just get on with these things don't we..your late effects clinic sounds good don't have that in my area and to be honest not seen a surgeon or nurse since they removed the dressings end of Feb last year.   Had a mammogram in Jan which was clear and that's really the only contact I've had.  Hope your recovery continues, all the best.

  • Thanks Fiona c22,they called today to say they will make me an appt to check and give me some techniques to help.  Still surprised as only 1 lymph node was removed unlike your 5.  All the best with your recovery too, hopefully we'll both soon be back to normal, whatever that is nowadays x

  • Hi, I also only had 1 lymph node removed, but I think it might be side effect of radiotherapy. Good luck with getting sorted

  • Hi I ad 1 node removed also but nw need 7 more removed anybody know how long pain or recovery like wit drains in after 2nd surgery I'm still confused.xx

  • I have this. I was referred back to the radiotherapy consultant to have it checked out, about 8 months after radiotherapy using the 5 day protocol. The referral was because it keeps showing up on scans (I have secondary cancer in my liver). In my case I have a band which presents as thickened skin all around where a bra wire would lie, plus the breast easily develops marks from clothing, where I lie etc, and is a bit pink.

  • saw on the other chat with bro and thatman a small paint roller can help to disperse fluid
