Hi
I’m starting my first round of chemo on Wednesday
many suggestions of items you have taken in with you
snacks etc
Thanks
irish girl has a good blog post here Chemo Side Effects - Hints & Tips and we have an august starters thread here RE: august starters 2023 i just drink water and brought some candies to pass time, some people bring food. i find the first sessions because the nurse does it manually they just chat butnext round will bring headphones and audio book, the woman across napped the whole time
I found my first three rounds of EC were surprisingly easy! I had each round on Thursday mornings and was well enough to go to my step classes the morning after! I think I was a bit high from the steroids! Try not to worry and preempt how you’re going to feel, you may be shocked by how well you feel; I was. Best of luck! x
My first day I looked like I was staying for a week I took so much stuff. Book, puzzle book, headphones, snacks, blanket, water spray and conditioner for the cold cap, cuddly toy my daughter insisted i take for good luck. But it soon got streamlined to a book, headband to protect my forehead from the cold cap, cuddly toy, ginger biscuits for nausea in case they had run out. Plus lime cordial when my taste buds couldn't tolerate NHS squash.
My chemo unit was roasting so there was no need for a blanket. Plus they did have some anyway if I really needed one. They provided spray and conditioner for the cold cap. I didn't always get to read as some of my chemo was manually injected so chatted to the nurse. The unit provided sandwiches for lunch if I was there. Plus drinks and biscuits to keep me going.
Good luck for Wednesday. As Mazz says try to not worry. Just take things one round at a time.
EC is a type of chemotherapy drug combination. It is epirubicin and clophosphamide combined. It gets shortened to EC.
Thanks Libwithlob. All I know is that I will have chemo and Herceptin I think?
It's one of the many chemo drugs you could be prescribe - think it's epirubicin cyclophosphamide or ec for short.
I took my laptop first time to watch Netflix Percy pig sweets and fluffy slipper socks. There was a TV or radio on the unit and I tried to have a sleep some times
