Hi All

I have been following the discussions on here hesitant to add my own story, everyone seems to be so brave and supportive and have really helped me get through the last few months.

I’m a 42 and a mom to 3 older children 14, 18 and 22.

I found a small lump underneath my left breast and skin puckering so I booked an appointment, kind of expecting it to be a cyst.

after all the scans and mammograms  the consultant told me it was suspect and they thought it was cancerous.

fast forward 2 weeks and I was back with my husband this time only to confirm it was grade 2 cancer although upsetting to hear the consultant said it was very early, so a lumpectomy and lymph node removal just to make sure it hasn’t spread.

The lumpectomy was the week after and although for the first week it was sore I healed really well and i hardly notice at all now.

I had my results Friday and he had confirmed he is very confident he got it all and it hasn’t spread to my lymph nodes so I will be taking tamoxifen for 10 years and I’m just waiting on a referral for radiotherapy.

I’ve had the best support system I ever thought possible my children, husband and family have all been amazing.

I’m so lucky but I just can’t shake the feeling that it isn’t over I’m so scared that it will come back or it’s still there growing elsewhere, I can’t seem to move on from it, I keep trying to tell myself to stay positive.

Has anyone else felt like this after, any feedback is most welcome

Hi Sarah b 42 welcome to the forum and I'm so glad that you have found this forum where everyone has their own story and yours is as valid and important as it is your story and each of us have a different one to tell.

I am so glad that at least the surgery part is past for you and Radiotherapy is a preventative way to ensure that this beast doesn't raise it's head again along with medication..

Believe me when  I say to you that you are not alone in your thoughts about recurrence, each and every one of us can relate to that and we have all had that. I dont know in all honesty if it ever truly leaves us.

I do wonder though if you can have a look on the internet for a Dr Peter Harvey. He is a psychologist that wrote a paper about Cancer and it is as pertinent today as it was when he wrote it, its called "After the treatment finishes" What next" . Have a look and have a read and Ill bet that you recognise all those feelings that you are having and that they are all normal.

Sending some huge big hugs your way for now.

  • Hi Gail
