Hi,
I'm ten days in after my lumpectomy and sentinal lymph nodes biopsy. Still sore and tired, but major problem was reaction to dressings which caused a bad reaction.
Thankfully wound and blisters now healing. Trouble is I'm also the carer for my husband who has stage 3 lung cancer (inoperable and no further treatment) - any others on here who have had to combine their cancer journey with caring for partner?
Hi Primrosey
Welcome to the forum and sorry to her that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer and that your husband has lung cancer and that they can't do anything more for him. Also sorry to hear that you had a bad reaction to your dressings. While I'm not combining my cancer journey with being a carer I noticed that you haven't any replies yet so I thought I'd reply to you to move you to the top of the discussion.
If you feel that you need extra support you can always ring the Macmillan helpline on 0808 808 00 00 to talk to someone about what you are going through as you combine your cancer journey with caring for your husband. Here's the link to the various supports that you can receive from Macmillan: Emotional, financial and physical help for people with cancer | Macmillan Cancer Support..
Wishing both you and your husband the best of luck with everything.
Best wishes
Daisy53
Hi Primrosey , sorry to hear of the complications following your breast cancer surgery though glad that it all seems to be healing now. Sorry also that you’re having to cope with your cancer diagnosis and treatment while caring for your husband. Life seems to deal some cruel hands. I share your breast cancer experience but not the caring, but I’m going to tag lovely moomy as she has shared her own breast cancer story as well as caring for her husband who had bladder cancer (hope I’ve got that all right moomy ). If she doesn’t get the tagging (I know it’s not foolproof) and respond, then you could post in the thread she set up called ‘It seems that I’m a patient now’ in the General discussion section. I think you would find her situation and writings helpful regarding your own very challenging situation. Sending love and a very gentle virtual hug your way, HFxx
Hi HappyFeet1 - thank you so much, have looked up moomy - amazing lady!
thank you Daisy53, I joined this forum after chatting with one of the nurses on the help line - they are amazing,. I had some emotional support from Macmillian just after my husband was diagnosed last year - but that was when he was receiving treatment - he had chen=mo and radio combined but reacted badly to chemo, and had to be hospitalised since then 3 lots of pneumonia and 1 sepsis so he is lucky to still be here.
Thankfully our local Carers support group referred me for an urgent carers assssment so he is getting a carer every other day to help with showering and to help me do things like bring washing down stairs and change beds!
I find it difficult to sit still, but am learning!
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
