My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer about a month ago. She had a mastectomy two weeks ago and everything went well but they’ve found that there is cancer in my mum’s lymph nodes. I don’t know what happens next and, to be honest, I’m really scared.

  • Hi sarzvader

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your mum's breast cancer diagnosis.  It's perfectly understandable that you are scared.  As there was cancer in her lymph nodes they will probably send her for a CT and bone scan, or maybe a mri to see if there is further spread.  They will put a treatment plan in place  once they have all the information.  Each treatment plan is individual to the patient as one size doesn't fit all.

Breast cancer is very treatable and your mother's medical team will do everything in their power to make sure she comes out of the other side of this.

There is a friends and family forum and a carer's forum that you can join to get support from other people who's loved ones are having treatment.  Here's the link to them both: Family and friends forum , Carers only forum.

You can also get support for you and our mum from Macmillan. Here's the link to supports you can get: Emotional, financial and physical help for people with cancer | Macmillan Cancer Support

Wishing you and your mum the best of luck with everything.

    Best wishes

  • I had it in one of the 30 lymph nodes they removed. I had the Oncotype DX test which found that I wouldn't benefit from chemo. It's hard not knowing, they will explore it to work out what to do. Amazing skills these people have. So grateful. Hope all goes well with your Mum. Xx
