Hi all, wow it's weird to be writing on this forum and having to say 'I have breast cancer', but I think we probably all feel/felt that way.

I found a lump and had some pain a month ago and went to GP and was sent to specialists and was told this Tuesday that I have HER2 positive breast cancer. I'm feeling pretty calm and looking at this as a bump (lump) in the road. Luckily it was caught early. I think I'm just a bit shocked because I'm only 40. I know it can happen at any age but wow.

I am waiting for a date for my operation, then I will have chemo, radiotherapy, hormone therapy so I think they're throwing everything at it. I'm really lucky that I have a great support system, even though I live alone with my dog so I'm feeling very loved right now.

If anyone is feeling alone and scared, feel free to reach out, however I can help I will be happy to.

  • Hi Lotts82

Welcome to the forum, I was diagnosed at 39 with HER2 luckily it was caught early, just got two weeks of chemo left, then mastectomy, radiotherapy and then hormone treatment for 12 months.

It’s wonderful you have great support network.. I know I’d be lost without mine!

if you need anything, a chat about treatments or just a good rant ! There is plenty of support here Relaxed

Wishing you all the best and sending positivity and hugs Relaxed

  • thank you Bert83 I am feeling quick overwhelmed about the treatment aspect. I have been told I won't need a mastectomy but will have my left nipple removed.

Well done on going through your treatment so far. How has it been, how have you felt? Any tips?

I'm having the op to remove first, then 6 months of chemo, then radiotherapy, they hormone treatment (not sure how long or the effect of this)

wishing you the best too, you must be chuffed you're nearly at the end of chemo.

  • Hi Lotts82

I had 3 cycles of EC chemo and 12 weekly paclitaxel, the paclitaxel is definitely easier than EC, i think I’ve been quite lucky with the side effects, but I followed the nurses recommendations, drink plenty of water and eat as healthy as you can, I found staying active has helped too

I have lost my hair two weeks after my first EC treatment, but I opted out of cold capping, however, it started growing back once I was on paclitaxel Relaxed️ I kinda look like prince William at the moment though.. full on the sides of my head and sparse on the top ! Lol Joy

i know it’s difficult, but staying as positive as you can also helps, we all have our bad days and we are allowed to, just keep fighting, if you need anything drop me a message x

  • Hi Lotts82,

That is good to hear about the paclitaxel, as I have just finished 4 x rounds of EC, and glad it's over. I then start 12x rounds of taxel, before having a mastectomy, later in November. I'm having an ultrasound later today, to check the tumour has decreased. I also have tumour in one lymph node.

  • Thank you KatQ, for sharing your experience with me. The Prince William comment made me laugh.

im worries about my initial surgery being delayed, has anyone else had their initial surgery delayed?

cold capping sounds hideous but I might give it a go, I don’t have the cheekbones to be bald hahaha

    xx

  • Sorry Bert83 I got the names confused, thank you for sharing, this is all so overwhelming I’m going mad already haha

  • Hi Lotts82

Have you asked anyone at the hospital why they have delayed it? I’ll be honest I’m nervous about surgery … never been put under before

i didn’t like like the idea of cold capping, there’s alway hats and scarves Relaxed️ have you been offered a wig at the hospital? I have one but I don’t like wearing it to be honest… just hats and scarves for me

I can understand the overwhelming feeling… it’s a lot to take in and it can all start happening so fast with the appointments

  • No it hasn’t been delayed yet but I’m getting myself wound up before it’s even started. I literally only found out I have this on Tuesday, but I’m so impatient, I just want to get started.

my consultant is going on leave so he can’t do the surgery so has put an ask out for others to pick it up but I know there are lots of surgery delays out there.

I am having the surgery before any treatment which is good I think? They’re calling my surgery curative and the treatment comes after.

yeah I agree about the wigs, if I can hide in hats and scarfs I can do that.

good luck for your surgery, when are you scheduled?

  • Hi Lotts82

Im curative too Relaxed I’ve just focused on that really throughout the treatment ️so far, it has helped

as scary as this is for you… you WILL get through this and you'll be stronger for it

Im scheduled for 1st September, I’ve opted for a double mastectomy and nipple removal which the consultant is happy to do, got to have an appointment with a psychiatrist first though on 24th July, got an appointment on 16th August for pre-op discussion

  • Hi, I am 45 and was diagnosed on 22nd June, with Grade 3 invasive ductual breast cancer oestrogen positive and her2 positive, has gone into lymph nodes, then had ct scan on the Sunday 3 days after, then the Wednesday 1st oncology appointment, where they discussed my treatment plan, ec-t chemotherapy 6 cycles in total, when I get to the 4th cycle will have phesgo injections for 18 cycles I believe then surgery and then radiotherapy, had bloods.done and ecg too, then the Saturday more bloods, then Tuesday I had phone call appointment to explain what happens on day of treatment, then hour later had to see oncologist then half hour later had picc line fitted, then the Wednesday was mri scan, then Monday this week bloods, then 1st cycle chemo was this Tuesday, tried the cold cap, then Thursday I had results of scan so it hasn't spread anywhere else, cancer been classed as stage 2b and then I have had an echocardiogram today. So has been a made 3 weeks since diagnosis.

Hope your treatment goes all OK once u know what it is x
