.I am 74 with recent diagnosis of grade 1 invasive ductal cancer of 1 cms. It is in right breast inside bottom left. I was told I need not take notes but I have not been given any written details of cancer type and treatment planned. Is this normal? I want to know if I can safely ignore lymph node removal ( they are negative ) and if anyone is on 10 mg of tamoxifen and if anyone has been given tamoxifen cream.
Being older and not expecting this I do want to live a reasonable life from now on without medicine side effects, I also want to do my trip to Canada 4 weeks after my lumpectomy and before radiotherapy and tamoxifen. Anyone else any experience here? I have cutaneous lupus and osteoarthritis of the neck so these could effect treatment?
luckily I am fit.
Hi Han
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. It's great that they caught it early. You don;t have to worry about the lymph nodes as they are negative for cancer. You should be able to go on your holiday to Canada, as they usually give you about four to six week to recover from surgery before starting Radiotherapy. If you haven't already you need to mention the holiday to your medical team just so that they can work around it.
There's is a booklet on the Macmillan website about breast cancer. You can either read it online or get it posted to your home by Macmillan. Here's the link: Breast cancer in women booklet | Macmillan Cancer Support
I have no experience of Tamoxifen but I'm sure someone who has experience of that medication will be along shortly with advice on it,
Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment when it starts and enjoy your holiday, you deserve it,
Best wishes

Hi Ham, I’ve been on 20mg tamoxifen for just over a month now. I take the tablet at night to avoid any side effects during the day. The only side effects I have are hot flushes - mainly overnight and I did have an achy hip for a little while but that has settled now. Not sure if that was from the tablets or not. Although tamoxifen like any drug has side effects I don’t think it is as bad as letrozole which seems to give people lots issues. Different brands seem to affect people which when I spoke to my oncologist he said it was the fillers that are added to tablets that generally cause the problems. I have Mylan brand of tamoxifen and this seems to suit me. After my holiday I will be trying another brand(s) to see how I get on with those. That way I may have a couple of choices I can choose from that suit me.
Wishing you all the best.

Hello Ham
Your consultant will likely have sent a letter to your GP and copied it to you. It seems usually electronically these days.
You can find out from hospital’s website, or from ringing them up, what the web address or app is, create a patient account on it, and log in to (hopefully) see your appointments, test results, and the letters which have information about your diagnosis and treatment plan.
I have had to do this, nothing has been posted to me here.
Hugs xx
