Hi, I’m new here. I’m just trying to get things sorted for chemo starting a week on Friday. Can anyone recommend anything I should be getting in ready for treatment, I’m trying to sort out those jobs that you never seem to get around to and I will have some meals ready in the freezer, I’ve ordered some scarfs, any recommended creams for scalps or anything you wish you’d been told about so you had it in ready? Thanks and good luck with your treatments and mental health xx

  • Hi Piritaxi

welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer and need chemo. Make sure that you bring something with you to keep yourself occupied while undergoing treatment as you will be there for at least two hours longer if you are cold capping.  Make sure that you drink plenty of liquids during and after each chemo session.  Bring snacks with you in case you feel hungry during treatment. Make sure you take your anti-sickness meds even if you feel ok as they help to prevent nausea.  If you find they aren't working for you ring your chemo unit and they'll be able to change your meds or adjust the dosage.

Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment.

    Best wishes

  • Hi,

I went through chemo 1 every 3 weeks from Jan to May, x3 cycles of EC (red one), then x3 of docetaxel. I am currently going through radiotherapy on last leg of it now.

I did use the cold cap on first one, was fine it just means that you are at hospital a lot longer. I didn't continue with it due to lot of hair loss.

I would recommend Aveeno yoghurt body cream it's amazing and cooling on your scalp if needed or E45 is meant to be good too.

I had to switch my diet a lot depending on how side effects were. Plenty of water before during and after treatment, and eat if can too helps your body prepare.

Take entertainment with you makes time go quicker.

Layers some can make you feel cold.

Sounds like you have great positive vibes which will help you through.

Wishing you all the best with your treatment x

  • That’s great advice, thank you xx
