Flat vs Braxon implant?

Hello there, I’m new here. Diagnosed recently with Stage 2 Lobular cancer and have surgery end of June. I’ve signed up for full mastectomy and a Braxon implant plus lymph node removal and biopsy to check it is actually Stage 2. After a lot of thought and discussion I opted for the immediate reconstruction with the Braxon, but my next preferred option would be to go flat. I’m very much averse to unnecessary surgery so this seemed the least invasive option. My darling husband threw a curveball last night by saying he thought I should seriously consider going flat since he’d love me just as much and he never liked the idea of fake boobs and he’d rather I went for the least risky option since he’d like me to live a long life with him. How great is he?? All very well but I’m now massively conflicted, really about how I’d feel in a swimsuit as much as anything. So I guess I’m wondering if anyone out there has had Braxon and how is it faring? Any regrets? My main worry is that the nodes biopsy come back positive and then I’m in for radiotherapy etc which will likely damage the Braxon and I’d have to have it removed I believe. Many thanks for reading xx

  • Hi again Ellis123, fabulous husband by the way - lurve him Kissing heart

I've thought about this a lot even though I don't know my options yet. I've decided to stay flat because a) much fewer trips to the hospital and b) my body is no longer and never will be beach ready! I'm in no way underplaying the psychological effect of losing my boob nor the physical pain/discomfort/problems that  may arise but the mere thought of having to return to THAT hospital with the attendant risks of infection or malpractice terrifies me.

My cousin opted for immediate construction with an implant (don't know what type). She had to go back every four weeks to have it pumped up  and then another operation to have the implant fitted. Two further operations for plastic surgery to lift implanted boob & nipple construction. She's very happy with it and is a 'normal 'person when it comes to hospitals & operations etc. i.e obviously nervous as anyone would be but not mentally unstable/scarred like myself. Also she had no chemo or radio and no spread so like they always say - everybody is different.

I'm sure you will do whatever you feel is best for YOU having looked into all the pros & cons of each course of action. Hugs xxx

  • Hi Ste59, that's great that you've made your mind up about going flat. That was my first thought until I found out about the Braxon which is just one op at the same time as mastectomy. No being pumped up like a beach ball! I'll reply to your other thread about other hospitals.... xxx
