Hi,
I'm at the horrible stage of waiting for results of biopsies (already 99.9% certain I have 2 malignant tumours). Biopsies were 6th June - felt like I was being attacked with a hole-punch
Is there somewhere on here that gives like a glossary/explanation of the terms used for types of breast cancer and the different types of chemo and drugs used? On top of being terrified, I'm certain I won't understand any of the terminology or treatment options that the consultant says.
Will tell more about me/my situation in time - for now huge hugs to everyone going through this.
Thanks
Ste59 x
Hi Ste59
Welcome to the forum ;and sorry to hear that you might have breast cancer. You can find the information you are looking for on the Macmillan Home Page macmillan.org.uk. If you need further support you can ring the helpline on 0808 808 00 00 and there will be someone on the end of that line to give any help and support that you might need. The helpline is open from 8 am to 8 pm seven days a week.
Wishing you the best of luck with results and do let us know how you get on.
Best wishes
Daisy53
Hi Ste59 and another warm welcome to the forum. Sorry you find yourself here but I’ve found it a great place for support and shared experiences. Like you I knew from my initial breast clinic appointment that it was certain to be cancer. You’re now in that horrible limbo stage of waiting for results. Tortuous but somehow the time will pass. I think we’ve all felt better when we know more about our particular cancer and what might be in store for us re treatments.
Great advice from Daisy53 to check out information here on this site. General googling is not helpful as some information out there is out of date or even wrong. Do prepare a list of questions to ask when you go for your results, and definitely ask for explanations about any terminology that you’re not sure about.
Wishing you well, keep posting and asking questions or just have a rant if that helps! Sending love and a big virtual hug your way, HFxx
I'm in this position too. My results appointment is tomorrow morning. I'm terrified. The doctor said he was certain that the results will be cancer but the biopsy confirms it. I'm so worried that he's going to tell me there's no treatment available.
Hi, I’m new here too, about 3 weeks ahead of you with full diagnosis after the staple gun biopsy! I’d self-diagnosed after Googling and was way off beam (mercifully) and then started the rounds of various consultations where, eventually, everything was explained in full. Info was drip-fed which was frustrating at times but there’s a lot to process and options to consider, so try to just go with the flow and you should have plenty of opportunity to ask questions you forgot at the last meeting. The best advice I’ve been given was from a friend who said don’t put your mental energy into the surgery bit, because they’re experts and know what they’re doing, but rather focus on setting yourself up for a good recovery with nutrition, getting extra help at home etc etc. That said I’ve got a dilemma about the choice I’ve made thus far - see my thread about Flat vs Braxon. Wishing you all the very best, x
Hi Ellis123 & thanks. My appointment is at 11am tomorrow and I'm feeling sick with nerves. I'm terrified of hospitals and despise the hospital where I'm going because my mum died (unnecessarily) on the operating table there when she was my age and, 6 years ago, my stepmum fell & broke her arm, went in for pain management, got hospital acquired pneumonia and died of sepsis within a week of being admiitted. The place is a $£&%hole
Can I make a suggestion - see if your surgeon or oncologist work at a different local hospital as well? Might make things easier for you?
Hi F1 and thanks. I've researched and the surgeon works at the local Private hospital which I can't afford unfortunately. I am going to explain to him my fear/hatred of the hospital in the hope that he takes pity on me and offers to do it at the private hospital (NHS patients do have some operations there - mostly knee/hip surgery) I did consider a hospital about 30 miles away but decided it wouldn't be fair on my family especially those who don't drive. Both my (half) sister and cousin come to each appointment with me and neither of them drive.xxx
