Hi all , 1
st I must apologise as I've not had an official diagnosis as yet.
My journey started with bloody discharge and a ultra sound that showed a 3mm abnormality in a duct and mammogram showed dense breast tissue grade 3.
This was all confusing for me . So my surgeon said I needed a total duct excision that I had yesterday. I didn't get to see the surgeon yesterday to find out what he had done during the surgery . My discharge notes said 7 day follow up for wound care and change the dressing. But then I saw that my surgeon had booked me on the 4th of July to see the breast care nurse at the parapet unit.
I thought that if i got negative results I would just get a call and a letter . I also thought that the breast care nurse was to explain ongoing treatments . I don't understand if I don't have cancer why would I need to see this nurse.
I'm so sorry I wonder if anyone can help me. I'm having a bit if a panic attack. I've had 13 brain ops with a vp shunt fitted. Nobody needs these battles but I really don't want anymore battles either ..
Thanks in advance and so sorry if I've come across panicky
Don’t worry about sounding panicky, feeling as if you don’t know what’s going on is enough to make anyone feel panicky.
it sounds as if communication hasn’t been very good. Do you have a number for the breast care nurse team? (If not the hospital website should have it somewhere, or just ring the hospital switchboard and ask them to put you through). I’d give them a ring and explain what you’ve said here, hopefully they can give you a better idea of what’s going on.
Good luck
Awe thank you so much .. I didn't know if I should. Do that or just wait but I will try tmrw
Thank you once again
Hi, the face to face follow up with the surgeon is standard procedure at my hospital. I’ve had two mastectomies. The second one was elective, and on a healthy breast - I requested it, and the surgeon agreed. Tissue still went off to the pathology lab (it came back clear) but I still had to go back to see her, even then. Just as well really, by then I was developing a seroma (a really common pocket of fluid) and the nurse drained it (completely painless procedure) there and then. Xx
if you google breast care nurse and your hospital it should give you a name and hoepfully a contact number. or call the hospital and ask for one. no good to set you adrift. in london they have walk in all week no appt or you can call and ask BCN. shocked they just cut you loose until next appt
