Hello
I was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer in January 2023, started EC chemo in February and have had four cycles. I am about to start Paxitaxal weekly next week and Phesgo three weekly.
I have a holiday booked for early October, which my oncologist believes I should be able to make. I had a yearly travel insurance that needed renewing which they were unable to to because of my diagnosis.
My question is can anyone advise of insurance companies that offer good insurance at a decent price and also when would be best for me to approach them? Thinking it may be better once I have finished chemo and had review scans?
Any advice greatly received?
Hi StaceyP2
I've recently used goodtogoinsurance.com to cover me for a holiday. However, my breast cancer treatment had been completed so I don't know if they will cover you at your stage.
You'd probably find it useful to join the travel insurance group where you'll find recommendations from others who have been successful in getting travel insurance after they've had a cancer diagnosis. Once you've joined look for the thread called 'recommended travel insurance' as this is where the majority of recommendations are.
Lots of people find that it's better to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also, sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

I used the screen scraper payingtoomuch.com and got insurance through that. You put all your medical conditions in and it pulls prices through. Hubby and I got insurance for year for around 150 quid Europe only
Thank you, I’ll take a look. Did you have to get any documentation from consultants???
Try the comparison websites, as I find the cheapest deals that way. They do ask about ongoing treatment and how recent your diagnosis is, which will only have been a few weeks out of chemo and you'll be tired. I went to Tenerife 8 weeks after stopping for a long weekend and it wasn't too bad.
No I didn't. Just put all our medical conditions in and it brought back prices
I found the major comparison sites wouldn't quote me - meerkat and travel supermarket amongst them
Good to know ! I am planning for China, Hong Kong and Thailand in November and worried that the insurance might cost more than the flights!!!!! I will have finished chemo June 23rd and had surgery in August - as long as all goes to plan!
Hi,
My TNBC diagnosis came at a similar time. I started with EC in feb (3 cycles) and have 3 weeks left of 9 weeks of Paclitaxel. Also have carboplatin every three weeks - no phesgo for me. My holiday planned for a November but surgery first. Really hope you make it to get away!
Hi Stacey,
I have exactly same diagnosis but a couple months behind you. Just had 3rd EC and will be on paxitaxel and phesgo as well before surgery.
Best insurance company for cancer for sure is www.insurewith.com
It asked a lot of questions but relevant. Was so much cheaper. Did family cover and found them from recommendations on here.
Hope that helps
