Well.. After my really anxious day waiting for my picc line to be fitted, she couldn't do it as my veins kept moving. I am so sore and bruised. I'm still starting chemo today, but another way, I don't know what! I have another picc line appointment on June 14th. im hoping it gets done then! I'm dreading this afternoon!
Love and hugs xxx
Oh bless you! I don’t know how long your chemo course is- I was put on chemo with very little notice and ended up with a course of 6 in total. I didn’t have a picc line and managed with a cannula into my hand each time , despite having deep/ difficult veins .
I realise that only worked for me as it wasn’t a longer course of chemo treatments, but that might be an option for you if you have a similar treatment length . Good luck !
Hi, my course is 16 sessions EC every 2 weeks for the whole of June, Then Paclitaxel for 12 weeks, the chemo yesterday work through the canula ok, but they still want to try the picc line.My arm is so bruised! Fingers xd the next time will be successful!xxx
Hi Musicmumma, oh no sorry to hear about the difficulties they had with your picc line. That’s a strange thing “veins kept moving”. Have you asked about having a port instead? They can put that in an arm or chest. Not sure if it would still be problematic with veins again though.

Hi Cuffcake, they are going to try the picc line again, but if it doesn't work the port may be an option, but I really don't fancy another trip for a general anesthetic. Apparently they are getting someone to do the line that is basically more experienced! This has only been my first session and I'm not feeling too great. I've got to do my tummy injections from Sunday for 5 days I'm dreading that️

I had 5 days of injections too. They are doable and quick and painless to do. I was lucky and didn’t have any achy bones with them. I did feel a bit nauseous and took my anti sickness meds. Not sure if it was those or the after effects of chemo.
Having an arm port is done under a local anaesthetic, I think even the chest one is too. Fingers crossed the second time the picc line goes better. They should have had someone experienced the first time, I understand nurses have to learn but I thinks they should be accompanied with someone until they have it down to a T as they say.
I love my port it has made things so easy.
Good luck, hugs from cuffcake x x x x x
With the injections, try letting them warm up to room temperature for atleast 30-40 minutes and then it won't be so cold , also perhaps try pinching the skin in the area that you inject into so it doesn't hurt as much - I found that worked to make things easier and not so painful . Good luck !
Hi Su31e and Musicmumma, There should be an instruction sheet in the packet to explain how to do this. Or you can find it on the internet. Otherwise the nurse or pharmacist should have gone through it with you to make sure you know how to administer it. It is very easy.
I used to take injection out about half an hour before needed. Sit somewhere comfortable, pinch (not hard) some skin on my belly, wipe with the clinical wipes I was given. Then I let go for a moment took the cover off the injection, then I would pinch the area I had just wiped and push the needle in. I kept the skin pinched and slowly over 10 seconds pushed the plunger down. Holding the syringe and pushing the plunger can be done with one hand. Once completely done I removed the syringe and let go of my skin. Then put the syringe in the sharps bucket I was given.
Hope this helps
