Hi I am Nikki and it is my first time on the site. I was diagnosed with breast cancer on the 3rd February after finding a lump on the 16th january. I have a type 2 hormone cancer. I was coping okay a few wobbles along the way but I was more positive than I feel now. After a mri scan it was decided by my consultants that the best option for me was to have a double mastectomy and then this would be followed by chemo and radiotherapy. I have now hit Rock bottom as two weeks after the surgery I got told that the left breast had been clear and the right breast had a tumour in it which had been removed and that it had spread to My lymph nodes and that fifteen out of the 26 infected had been removed but the remaining nine the surgeon had been unable to get to and remove. I never new that this could happen and presumed that they would be able to remove them all. I have spoken to my consultant and have expressed my concerns if it spreading but they do not think that it will. How can they be so sure. I am now at a stage that with every niggle I get I am now convinced it has spread. I am due to see the oncologist on the 12th June to discuss my treatment plan but am really not coping at the moment. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi, so sorry to hear that your surgery wasn't exactly as expected and I am sure waiting another few weeks for your appointment is pretty frustrating. I am not a medical expert, but the chemo is designed to kill anything that's left behind anywhere in your body and the radiotherapy targets the breast area, so these will help with the remaining lymph nodes.
Why don't you give the lovely team here at Macmillan a call and have a chat with their advisors. You can reach them on 0800 808 0000 and I am sure they can help give you some clarity. Best wishes
Thank you so much for replying. I will give them a call and have a chat xxx
Hi, I agree with Irish girl. The chemo and radiotherapy will kill off any cancer cells. It’s only natural I think we all think every niggle now is cancer. Best wishes for the treatment ahead
