Hi everyone I am new to this chat and I am on here asking for some advice please.
I have had a left breast mastectomy which I am stroll really struggling with and just living in baggy clothes, my issue is I have a few mastectomy bras for my prosthetic breast but it just never feels comfortable or sits right so I decided to Google more companies that make these type of bras and my god the prices are ridiculous, it’s hard when you have gone from paying £6 too 2 for £10 at Asda and now I have to pay £20 £30 I have even seen some for £55 I don’t understand how they justify charging that much for women who have not chosen to be in this situation. i would like to know if anyone knows and reasonable places I could go to actually try on before buying.

many thanks

  • Hi the bras i found the best were from M&S. They are vat free and are comfy. M&S also do a free fitting service as well.

I've never been lucky enough to buy bras from a supermarket so knowing I could get vat free ones were a bonus.

Have a look on line as well at them to see what you think. Also if you live near a John Lewis they are great and the women who measured me took into account the scar under my arm.

    1. Hope you find the right bra for you Annfield all the best for the future.
    • Thank you I will have a look
  • I am another who has never been able to buy from supermarkets, etc, due to being a less common size ie 34E or F. I am used to having to pay £30 plus for a bra.

The mastectomy bra and prosthesis provided by the hospital have turned out to be unsuitable, no choice, just one brand and the cup size only went up to DDD so no good for someone who is E or F cup yet there was nothing else available. I will be travelling to a specialist shop in the near future and will have to pay what's necessary to get a comfortable fit.

  • Thank you, I am a DD and many years ago that size was hard to get, but i don’t agree with the prices that are being charged.

  • You could try nicola jane. They will probably give you a first timers discount and there are often bras in the sale section. I.

  • Hi Baz47, Like you I am a large F cup and trying to find a well fitting bra post mastectomy was awful. I already had some Doreen triumph bras that I used before the op so I cut up a black and white T Shirts and made my own pockets to sew in to the bra to hold the prosthesis in place and it works really well and I am still able to wear the bras I already had. You can make your own template for it or Nicola Jane actually sells the pockets for about £5.99. Hope this helps. Jxxx <3

  • Thank you I will have a look at there site

  • Hi I have had a double mastectomy with breast reconstruction and so I am not where you are.  However I have used the amoena  range of bras.  This was partly because I liked the look of them and Guy's Hospital had a place where you could buy them and get advice on fitting.  I appreciate that they aren't cheap even with the VAT removed.  What I can say is that they were very comfortable to wear.  What ever you do get advice with fitting from someone who understands the issues. I am now using John Lewis to help in choosing the right bras. I can have a more normal bras. They have an on-line booking service. I have never been able to get advice from M&S.  No doubt I was there at the wrong time.

    I hope this helps.

  • Hi   I’m a G cup and like you have found not much choice unless you go to specialist and pay over the odds Nicola Jane online is reasonable in as much as the have regular clearance bras . Also do 25% off weekends etc.

Had my MX in 2019 and have moved on to buying my usual pre surgery bras and sewing a pocket in to hold prosethic Nicola Jane sell them as does Amazon .
you can also buy bra liners I think they’re meant to absorb sweat under boob but they are great to sit under boob for comfort .

best of luck hope you find something comfortable .
