Hi I found a lump in my breast. I noticed my boob was feeling heavy after a bath and it had a tiny dent. I left it for a month as I'd just started hrt patch, lumpyness was listed as a side effect.  After a mammogram, scan and biopsy I found out I've got stage 1 breast cancer it's in my lymph nodes too. I'm confused it's 28mm and some of the info I've read has suggested this is stage 2 due to the size. They are looking at chemo, lumpectomy and radiotherapy.

I also had a scan on my abdomen as I've had period pain solidly. I've always suffered with periods and pmt. I'm peri meno and just started hrt patch. The scan showed a thickening of the endometrium the Dr said it could be cancer two cancer whammies on the same day! breast and down below. so I need a hystoscopy and exam. (Next wednesday) I'm more terrified of that because I found my last smear so painful and im due on anytime now, although my dates are all over the place. I'm petrified that it's going to be cancer and I won't be able to have my treatment. I've had my ct scan but waiting for further results from biopsies. Will they be able to see me if I have my period, I've already waited two weeks the not knowing is doing my head in. X any thoughts or advise. X

  • Hello Cfell,

Welcome to the Online Community. I hope that you will find it as informative and supportive as I have done. I am sorry to see you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Having a diagnosis of cancer is such a stressful and worrying time and I have found sharing with others in a similar situation does help.

I will see if I can give you some links to info that you may find helpful.......

-Diagnosis | Macmillan Cancer Support This has some info around diagnosis and if you scroll to the bottom it has all the links of different ways that you can contact Macmillan for support.

-Treatment for breast cancer | Macmillan Cancer Support This is a bit of info about some of the treatments that you think you may be having.

I am sorry to see that there is also a concern regarding a thickened endometrium and that there is a possibility that this may indicate cancer. It must be hard to face both together.

I had a hysteroscopy/biopsy and I was really scared before I had it too. However it was not actually too bad. If you want me to tell you more about mine I am happy to do so, just ask.  However here is a link that may help

Biopsy for womb cancer | Macmillan Cancer Support- if you go to half way down the page it gives information on an outpatient hysteroscopy- which is what I had. I was told that if I was bleeding on the day of the procedure that it could still go ahead.

I hope this helps a bit and I am sorry that you are having to face both together.

Please do not be afraid to ask if there is anything else you need.

    Take care

    Jane

  • Thanks for replying Jane. I will ask for all the pain relief going when I have it done. My poor friend had a bad experience and was not told what was happening or given pain medication. I think she was unlucky as the clinic was running late and they fitted her in.

  • My experience was made a lot easier by very understanding nurses. She phoned me the day before and explained exactly what would happen. I asked about taking pain killers an hour before and she said that was fine. While it was being done she talked to me step by step and it made a huge difference. The only particularly painful bit for me was when the instruments went through the cervix but I counted to 5 and it was done. After that it was just a bit like period pain. I did feel a bit light headed afterwards. Take some pads with you- the more absorbent night time version- as they give you a pad after but they are basic type. I had a bit of dull period like aches for a couple of days after but managed with ibuprofen. If it is too painful, they can stop and there is an option to have it under a general anaesthetic. I have a friend who had it done this way last week. Good luck

  • How are you doing now?  Did you get your diagnosis?

I went for a smear this week and the gynaecologist did an ultrasound and vaginal scan.  Endometrium is 12mm so significant thickening, also showed a fibroid.  All with no symptoms.   Oh the absolute joy of it all!

  • Hi I had my hysteroscopy on 3rd May I have a tilted cervix and 3 polyps it was painful and I shouted at one point. I saw the polyps on the screen. They gave me the option to continue so I asked what do you think is best for me the specialist recommended sedation. all booked in for 18 May breast cancer surgery on 23rd May. I queried that the two procedures would be too close together no that's fine. A phone call to say we are doing the two operations together. so That's one wide local excision one lymph node clearance and a polyp removal. The breast surgery went okay and the polyps were removed. They were benign endometrial ones. I cried with relief. I had a letter to say I'd been discharged the previous specialist had said that I needed a coil for the thick endometrium. I will chase that later. I had more breast cancer surgery as they didn't get it all the first time around. The hysteroscopy is not pleasant but they will do their best to make you comfortable the worst bit is standing up after the procedure the water they put in your womb just gushes out, the nurses had just wiped the floor when more came out lol little wet footprints to the changing room. I hope it goes okay for you x my body is trying to start a period so im like crampy only 46 days this time x lol peri meno fun x

  • Thank you for the update.  I’m so glad you had a good outcome, I wish you all the luck in the world with your breast cancer treatment.

I think hysteroscopy is my next step.  I’ll bear in mind the potential waterfall afterwards, good job we can retain our senses of humour x
