Hi ladies. lovely to meet you all. my name is catherine aka cat and i’ve just recently been diagnosed and in my 3 day post op recovery. Looking to connect with anyone in the same or similar situation as me for chats and advice xx
Hi Cat b,
Hardest stage I found, good to do nothing but self care and nourish. Exercising the arm and start gentle massage when able. I had all my lymph nodes removed the swelling and bruising made it more painful. The Macmillan Nurse told me to keep taking the pain killers regularly. That was early Dec. My arm lifts up ok now. Started walking quite early as well. If exhausted just don't do it. Alternate days suited me best to start with.
You can do this, hope is everything. Love and all good wishes. So much support around for later when you are ready. Xxx
Hi cat b, welcome to the forum. If you can tell us a little more about your diagnosis (tnbc, triple positive, HER2 etc) then there will be lots of us out there who can share our experiences with you. It maybe early days and you do t have that full info yet.
I was triple positive so ER+, PR+ and HER2 +. I have had surgery and just finished chemo. I will be starting radiotherapy in May along with targeted treatment for HER2 + for a year and hormone treatment for 5 years.
If you click on my name you can read about my journey so far.
Everyone’s treatment will be designed based on their diagnosis and health so one treatment doesn’t fit all.
Some are lucky and don’t need chemo others like me get the lot. There are days it’s hard going but it’s all doable and we will beat this. Be kind to yourself and take things easy. Listen to your body and don’t overdo things.
Wishing you all the best on your journey. Keep us posted.

Hello, i had my lumpectomy on the 6th of March, which went well and lymphnodes removed too. No further spread. However, after a week, I started having a lot of clear discharge, not painful, but annoying. This became a yellow discharge and the breast became pink, painful and swollen. Gp arranged an emergency appointment for outpatients at the hospital and they cleaned it out. However, 2 days later, the breast was huge, swollen, red and very painful again, to such an extent that I had to phone 111 as it was a Saturday. Luckily they had all my notes at the hospital and they prescribed Flucloxacillin and Penincillin for 7 days. The wound is only now (6 weeks after the operationn) just about closed up. To be honest, I did not expect this much hassle and inconvenience, nobody told me this could be the case. It was a small tumor, and they were very 'matter of fact' about tit, like 'we'll remove it and you can get on with your life'...
Hi Bellah, sorry to hear you had problems after your lumpectomy and lymph node removal. Unfortunately as with all ops there is no guarantee that a wound won’t become infected or cause problems. Not so good if the medical team didn’t explain this to you. It’s great that you managed to get things sorted and it has cleared up and healed. Have you got any further treatment?
