Hi, I'm new here too. I'm 9 weeks post bilateral mastectomy but am still having issues with lymph build up. I look like I have a sack of potatoes under my t-shirt! I also have had M.E. and Fibromyalgia for 40 yrs (I'm now 71) so it feels as though I am fighting on 2 fronts and neither enemy likes each other - or me.
This has caused several problems to the extent I was blue-lighted to hospital an hour after returning home from day surgery, a week in hospital and severe reactions to hormone therapy.
I am now 99% sure I am going to stop taking the medication - simply to make living doable.
I would love to know if there is anyone else on the forum who is also dealing with cancer and chronic illness. It would be good to compare notes
Thank you x
Hi Tiswasis..Fortunately I do not suffer from a chronic illness like your but I do know how you feel with the lymph fluid build up. I am 3 weeks post mastectomy on left side..I was at a& e getting fluid drained on April 1st the yesterday had my follow up where he drained 2 litres of lymph fluid ,I too, like you looked huge!! And it was very uncomfortable and sore. It's already starting to build up again. He's seeing me Wednesday to check it, but if it keeps happening he said he may have to take ne in and do another operation to stitch the pocket up to stop the fluid gravitating to that spot only. Oh the joys! I do hope someone is able to help you and answer your question. Take care and good luck xxxx
Thank you for responding. It actually hurts so much more too because it almost feels as though the swellings are pulling at the wound. I went in with 2 breasts and came out with 3, one under each arm and one across my chest !
I hope you don't have to go back in but at the moment, anything that works eh??
Best of wishes xx
Luckily enough I retired early so thankfully one less worry! Now I'm just waiting to oncologist about starting chemotherapy then radiotherapy..lots of exciting stuff to look forward to this year! I can only imagine how painful it must be for you, My one side is hurting enough so I can't imagine the pain from 2! You poor thing! Sending gentle hugs your way
