Hi I was diagnosed at the beginning of March with invasive grade 2 lobular breast cancer.

I am waiting to start chemotherapy and have been expecting an appointment letter this week but it has not come yet.

My breast is getting very big and I'm really worried now. It's also painful.  I've been to the Dr they say to take paracetamol.

I've emailed the breast clinic no answer. Just had a massive meltdown.  I live on my own so struggling with all of this at the minute.  I just need a date to ficus on.

How do you all cope with the waiting

Thank you.

  • You cope by being strong and you will get through this.  Don't be afraid to call them and ask what is the delay. Sometimes you have to go for other tests like cat scan, MRI or ECG before the chemo begins. I was diagnosed at the beginning of July 2022 didn't start my chemo to the end of August 2022. So keep calling till you get an answer.

  • Hi Darceyrose, the waiting is awful. I had surgery on 2nd March, and like you tried to contact the breast clinic, but could never get through. In the end I went to see my go on Tuesday and explained that I hadn’t received an oncology appointment. He chased this up for me and I got a phone all on Wednesday and appointment the next day. I would say try your gp again, if you don’t get anywhere, leave a  phone message if possible for your breast cancer nurse. Failing that, I would go to your local A&E. Good luck and hope everything is ok xx

  • Hi Darceyrose

The waiting is the worst, it is all out of our control, as a control freak this does stress me out (a lot!)

Trust in the system, they know what they are doing as they do it day in and day out.  They need to obtain a complete picture of what’s going on before they can tailor the appropriate treatment to you.

Personally, I have focused on my home, decorating and cleaning, which has helped me prepare for the fact that I’m going to be here for a while!  I’ve also spoken to a friend of mine who has recently been through the same, this helped massively by answering questions that I didn’t even know I had.

The very best of luck with your treatment, believe me you are entitled to have a meltdown.  Do you have any friends that you could chat to?  They may not completely understand but they will support you.
