Hi Cinderella 17 here new to this group. I’m just 2 days back in my own home after surgery for a mammogram and lymph node removal. I had been staying with my daughter until then. It’s 3 weeks post surgery, every thing seemed to be going well. I now have fluid under the skin below the surgery and a red patch above the scar. Is this normal or should I consult my doctor.
I’m really glad you are out there for support.
thank you
Hi Cinderella, glad you are doing well after surgery. I had my mastectomy a week ago today and my surgeon doesn't like using drains my chest sounds like a hot water bottle sloshing around it's horrible! I do think some fluid is normal but if it's red or hot tell the Dr it could be nothing but best to check. You've been through enough without anymore aggrevation. Let us know how you get on . Much love xx
Hi Cinderella17
Welcome to the group and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. It's not unusual to have fluid under the skin below the surgery site, I had it after my surgery and my BCN drained it for me. As for the red patch above the scar I suggest you ring your BCN and tell them about it, it's probably nothing but it's best to get it checked out even if it's only for your peace of mind.
Best wishes

Hi Cinderella17
I assume you are feeling fine and no other symptoms? I would recommend letting your surgeon know as it may be nothing but best to let them know so they can make a call on how to monitor it? I was about 2-3 weeks post mastectomy and had a rash. I was feeling fine and no other symptoms but surgeons recommended draining the site and giving me couple weeks of antibiotics. It went away. I think best to manage this early?
best wishes to you and your recoveryand take it easy xx
Hi Musicmumma.
Thank you for your reply, maybe I’m panicking over nothing but it’s good to have somebody to talk to about it. I’ll give it a couple of days to see if it subsides . I do hope you are doing well apart from your hot water bottle. I would love to keep in touch. Love back to you xx
Thank you Daisy, my BCN does know about it and has said that it should drain naturally, My first day home and living alone I think I was panicking a bit. I’ll give it a few days and see how we go.
Best wishes
I have had to have mine drained 3 times as it got quite large and uncomfortable. It can rake a long time to go back into the body naturally so be kind to yourself and maybe get it drained it doesn't hurt x
