Hi I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2021 it was removed in May 2021. When a biopsy was taken it was thought to be grade 2 but when it was removed and tested I was told it was grade 3 the Wells score was 2. This meant my cancer was sent to America for further tests. While waiting for the results I had my radiotherapy, when the results came back it was borderline for me needing chemotherapy.  I was told that 4 rounds would enough. I has E/C (Epirubicin/Cyclophosphamide) It was brutal and by my second session my white cell count was so low that it couldn't be done until it improved. I had to inject into my tummy for 5 days. This helped me produce white blood cells and I had the second session. I was so week but with the help of the injections managed the third session. This was the worst yet and I ended up with a chest infection that went on for weeks. My oncologist advised me to skip the last session of chemo. My treatment had been strong and apparently lots of people miss the last one. When I got better I started on Anastrozole to reduce my oestrogen level and hopefully reduce the chances of my cancer returning. I wondered if anyone on here has taken Anastrozole and how they've managed the side effects. I was fine at first but as my oestrogen level drops I'm getting aches and pains, hot flushes, awful cold spells and occasional blurred vision. Has anyone else experienced this

  • Hi DebsLou, I didn't take Anastrozole but the symtoms you mention sound awfully like menopause to me, chemo brings on the menopause  even if you had already been through it, doesn't matter what age you are, you can go through it again.  Love from Ann

  • Hi, I’ve been taking Anastrazole since July 2021, and was prescribed it for ten years. I get the aches and pains, and sometimes feel 106! My ankle joints can be very bad, and affect my mobility. This used to be all of the time, but in the last 6-7 months, it seems to have settled in some ways. So some days (for a few weeks or so) I can be ok. Today is one of them, and I’ve walked 3 miles with no issues. Then the joint pain comes back again for a few days. I take an anti-inflammatory tablet when it’s like this, but I did consult my doctor first. And then the pain goes again, so today I’ve had no tablets, and hopefully that will continue for a while. I’ve never had hot flushes with it, but then I didn’t get those with the menopause either, but I definitely don’t feel the cold like I used to.

  • Hi farmerann, I have been through menopause and you're right I did get some of these symptoms but this time they seem so much worse. The cold spells are new to me.

  • Hi unfortunately most of the meds that are needed to reduce oestrogen levels to stop cancer using them to grow. Have the same effect as menopause. So your no experiencing anything unusual. Xx

  • Hi Cloudier I'm sorry you're struggling too. Hopefully you will continue to improve little by little. I think my worst symptom is the cold spells. When I go outside the cold air hits me and my skin prickles but then a hot flush comes on and sweat runs down face and stings on my cold cheeks. My skin dries and peels. I didn't realise how much oestrogen actually does and what can go wrong without it.

  • Hi Travelling lady I have gone through menopause but these symptoms are far worse than last time. Let's hope the ease over time x
