Hello I am having surgery on Tuesday 07 March, the
Hi I had the wire put in the day before surgery October ,I'm still tired but everyone is different just take it slowly if you can do your exercises they give you keep it moisturised and rest x
I had this 8 years ago, went to hospital 1 to have wire out in at 8.30am then drove 10 miles to hospital 2 for surgery in afternoon. The wire insertion was ok. I laid face down on table with boob hanging through hole where they worked underneath to place wire in correct position. You have a local then stand up mammogram to check in right place. Very fine coiled wire covered with dressing. Quicker and less painful than biopsy. I had surgery at 3pm, back on ward about 5.30pm and home by 8pm. Felt fit as fiddle next day then crashed following day with tiredness
Hi laynee, I had a wire put in the day of my surgery. It’s to guide the surgeon to the area to be removed/biopsed. Once done it is removed. They used ultrasound to insert it and local anaesthetic. It’s then taped into place so one wouldn’t know.
Wishing you all the best for your surgery
Hugs from cuffcake x x x xx
Hi I'm due for surgery 28th have guide wire inserted on the morning of op as surgeon can't see the Titanium marker very well. Interested in what you all say regarding it being put in. X
Hi
Sorry to hear you've joined the club that none of us want to be members of. I read your post and thought I'd share a little of my experience.
I had the guide wire inserted on the morning of the surgery. They scanned the area when inserting it and did a mammogram afterwards to check it was in the right place. I didn't have any anaesthetc and I didn't feel a thing. The wire was taped in place on the outside. Afterwards I was taken to nuclear meds to have a small amount of radioactive fluid injected into the breast. It was all straight forwards. I had blue dye injected during the op. Recovery was ok, I had blue staining around my nipple which faded within a few days. My pee was blue for about a day and a half. This is all normal and nothing to worry about. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. The biopsy involves removal of a small number of nodes, I had 3 removed. There is pain and swelling afterwards. The worst part for me was the pain in my armpit and upper arm. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen and religiously did the exercises. I had a small amount of banding under my armpit which is painful, but the exercises really helped and by week 3 I had full range of movement and the banding had gone. The breast was still a little sore and swollen where the lump was removed but I no longer needed to take any pain relief. Unfortunately for me, the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes so I had a second op to remove the remaining nodes 4 weeks after the first one. It's now 3 weeks post op and I have very little pain, no pain relief is needed, and I have regained almost full movement of my arm. The banding and pain was much worse second time around, but like I said before, I am religiously doing the exercises which really help. I had a drain inserted after the second op, which was removed after 2 weeks. I developed a seroma which has been drained twice. The nurse used a syringe to drain it. The area is still numb so I didn't feel the needle go in. However, the relief afterwards is lovely.
I'm lucky that my oncatype score was 10 and no cancer was found in any of the lymph nodes removed in the second op, so I don't need chemotherapy. The next step is an appointment with my oncologist in 3 weeks time to discuss radiotherapy and sign consent forms. I'll then have a course of radiotherapy followed by hormone suppressants for 5 years. My cancer is ER+, PR+,Her2 -.
I hope this helps give a little insight into what to expect. Obviously everyone is different. Good luck and best wishes for everything xx
Hi thanks. Am very early IDC Stage 1 grade 2 oestrogen sensitive and Hers2 negative. am having lumpectomy on 28th.
