Hi, it’s been 1 week since I was diagnosed with an invasive stage 2 lobular cancer in my right breast. I’m 35 and a mum of 3 and I feel like my head is just spinning. I saw my consultant yesterday and have been told the results of my mri show it is contained to the right breast which is good news. Have been told surgery will be in about 4/5 weeks (is that normal? I’m scared and obviously just want it removed) will be ok for a lumpectomy also. Been told that I will need chemo and radiotherapy and these are scaring the beejezzus out of me. I feel like everyone is giving my the pity look at the minute and it’s driving my crazy.

  • Hello! As someone that is one year on from diagnosis, that sounds perfectly normal to me. The only advice I can give you is take it day by day (or even minute by minute if you need too). I had surgery 4 weeks post-diagnosis (lumpectomy) so that sounds about right, but I totally understand what you're saying re wanting rid of the tumour asap. Radiotherapy was fine, although I was a bit tired afterwards (and my boob itched!) I didn't have chemo, but I'm sure others will respond about that. Take care x

  • Hi, welshmanc87,

I had my lympetomy last Thursday, that's exactly after a month of being diagnosed with breast cancer to my left side. I also had two lymph nodes removed. I still have pain & stiffness in my arm, especially where the lymph nodes were removed. I had recently joined this group and was assured by a lot of lovely people in the same situation as me.

Hope things go good for u.

  • Hiya, I have 2 lumps in my left boob, I’m having 6 chemos and then a lumpectomy, then possibly radio, the first chemo I was fine, my 2nd is next week  don’t read too much into the side effects like I did and scared myself to death, my hair is falling out this week but not a worry I get a free wig lol and it will grow back, take each day and enjoy the journey, drinks lots and lots of water we have to go through this to get out the other side don’t let it take over you and your everyday life

  • Hi,

I had a slightly different diagnosis but I am a year on from you, this time last year I was waiting for my first breast clinic appointment so how you must be feeling is very fresh in my memory. Once treatment starts you will feel a little different it’s all very scary but you will start to feel a little more in control once things get moving. I survived 16 rounds of Chemo, lumpectomy and Radiotherapy, it is all doable and if this is a route you go down  please take it all as one thing at a time, you’ll be surprised at how resilient you are.

Try to stay positive, you can do this because you don’t have a choice not too xxxx

  • Hi there, i am in a similar situation. My diagnosis was a week ago too. Grade 2, DCIS and invasive breast cancer in right breast. I found out today I am HER2 positive which means chemo and I thought I would only need op and radiotherapy. Hearing I have to have chemo as well has p!ssed me off a bit as I kind of had it in my head op ….. then radiotherapy …. then done! This adds another dimension which I hadn’t really thought about.  My surgery will be in about 4 weeks too. I have a pre op appt next week so hopefully I will know more then.

It is all a bit surreal for me at the moment.  I am 52, invited for a mammogram and then everything else has come from the left field!! Thank god for breast screening though!

I know exactly what you mean about the pity look!!! Also, ‘stay positive’ …. . I have been hearing that a lot …. It kind of feels like they are trying to convince me and that is annoying.    I do feel positive it’s all contained in the right breast and my consultant said they are treating it to cure it …. That is good enough for me at the moment!

What is reassuring though is how many stories I have heard of women who have had a similar diagnosis and have had treatment and they are cancer free. That is what I like to hear!

    Good luck on your journey!
