Been diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer meaning chemo then mastectomy
Ive been healthy all my life and not on meds for anything.
Chemo to start on monday.
Would love input from others ....positive feedback only please .
I've no advice to offer as on here as newly diagnosed myself. Also been lucky in health all my life with no family history etc so has come as a complete & utter shock as I am currently at end of pregnancy & last thing I was expecting to be facing into but just wishing you the best of luck with it all
Good morning, I’m sorry you find yourself here however it is a great resource for people who understand exactly how you feel.
I found my own lump a year ago yesterday, a year in I have completed 16 rounds of Chemo (cold capped and saved a lot of my hair), I had a lumpectomy and Radiotherapy.,I was grade 3 stage 2. I’ve not had a follow up yet but the results of my operation were no signs of cancer. I still have some side effects but things are getting back to a new normal. Chemo is doable, you will be up and down but you can and will do this, one day at a time and before you know you’ll be advising others on here.
Listen to your body, stay off Google and work with your team. Xxxx
Hi
Thanks for this.
Glad you are on the mend.
May i ask what length your hair was and how much you lost or thinned?
Hi Puglady,
I am also new to this. Diagnosed with grade 2 Her+ on 5th January, I’m a fit and healthy 45 year old, no family history, total shock. it’s been such a rollercoaster of emotions. Chemo starts on 10th Feb, followed by mastectomy and possible radiotherapy. I’m going to try the cold cap, but am going to get a wig just in case it doesn’t work. I’m at the Christie at Macclesfield, the care there is amazing.
Good luck I hope it all goes well x
Glad to see you are on the other side of treatment. How was the recovery from radiotherapy? Xxx
I know exactly how you are feeling. Its the shock isnt it and being healthy?
I keep telling people im not ill cos i dont feel it but gotta be poorly in order to be well..its such a conundrum.
I am in kent at medway macmillan centre ...going to chat to a lady later who tried the cap...will let you know x
Hi,
I did have long highlighted hair ( to about my bra). I had 4 EC and lost about 60% volume quite evenly (albeit a bald patch by my ear that looked shaved). I almost gave up but continued, I then had 12 Pax/Carbo and it stared growing back so stuck with it. I had it cropped into a pixie type cut to try and meet the regrowth. Cold capping has allowed me to go longer without headwear and when I started wearing a beanie, I’ve been able have some hair to frame my face. I had long hair and it came out and I shed everywhere for a while from about 2 weeks after the first EC. I wouldn’t go out without something on my head from about the 5 weeks after starting chemo, I started with bandannas and a ‘hair scrunchie’ on my messy bun, I moved onto a satin lined beanie but have not really got on with scarves. I have some good wigs but it was too hot to brave them but as it’s so short I may embrace them as my crop grows back (hate the short cut)! If you do try cold capping take 2 paracetamol about half hour before. It’s not easy but gets easier after first 10 mins. Good luck xxx
Radiotherapy was fine, I only had 5 sessions so minimal side effects. Slight redness.
