Hello ,I'm new here. Need some advice please! I saw consultant Tuesday, for lump in breast and underarm. Had mammogram, ultrasound then biopsies from arn and breast. He has ordered an mri scan for Moday as he said the lumps are suspicious, but can't see clearly on mammogram. I then was taken to a room by a macmillan nurse and given their number. I get biopsy results on February 10th and have appontment then. Would I see Macmillan nurse if they didn't think it was cancer? I'm so confused
Hi Musicmumma
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you are facing a breast cancer diagnosis. While I'm not 100 per cent sure that seeing a Macmillan nurse means that you have breast cancer the chances are that you probably do as the people doing the test are experts in their field so they'd have a pretty good idea whether it's cancer or not but obviously they cant't say for sure until they have the results of your tests. If you feel up to it why not ring the nurse and ask her.
I hope this reply helps somewhat.
Wishing you the best of luck with your mri on Monday and with your results.
Best wishes

Hi Musicmumma , it seems to vary so much, what is actually said at these appointments. In my case, the doctor looked at my mammogram and ultrasound (I’d found the lump), and said she was pretty certain it was cancer but would obviously need confirmation from the biopsy. I’ve never had an MRI. But about 15 years ago I found a pea size lump in a different section of the same breast - had mammogram, ultrasound, needle aspiration and punch biopsy over several weeks - all of which were inconclusive although the doctor’s words were ‘this is a very suspicious lump’. In the end I had a lumpectomy and it turned out to be a benign fibroadenoma, after all that! But I suspect the scans are a lot more accurate now.
So in your case, I guess it would be sensible to consider that it may well be cancer, especially as I know from this forum that some are easier to spot than others. Presumably your doctor isn’t 100% so wants the greater detail of an MRI. But the suggestion to phone the breast nurse sounds like a good idea, just to get some clarification.
Good luck with the MRI on Monday, and try to keep busy between now and your biopsy results appointment. Waiting is truly tortuous but somehow that day will come and you’ll know what you’re dealing with. Love and hugs, HFxx
And just to add, I did end up with cancer this time around but am over 4 years clear, so far so good! Bear in mind that treatments have moved forward greatly in past decade or so with new developments all the time. Breast cancer is regarded as generally very treatable nowadays. Xxx
Thankyou...it is the waiting that's hard! This time next week I will know xxxx
