Hi all, i was diagnosed with invasive ductal and lobular breast cancer early November. I had my op on the 20th December, it took a good 3 weeks for the pain/discomfort to ease but it's much easier now. The worst part was from the cut under my arm and I still have numbness at the top of my arm which I believe is from when nerves and tendons get damaged during the op but hopefully these should heal in time.
I've got my apt today to see how the op went and I'm feeling really nervous about it. Hopefully it will just be radiotherapy therapy and then medication for a few years however there is a chance I may need another op or chemo. Stay strong all and keep fighting.
Hi Anna Louise , wishing you well for your appointment today. Re your arm, mine felt like it had a carpet burn along the edge, as well as numbness, for quite a while. Very weird sensations and lack of sensations! But it gradually resolved. Will be thinking of you, come back on afterwards and let us know how it went. Sending love and a big (but gentle) virtual hug your way, HFxxx
Hi, it wasn't great news. Unfortunately I have to have more surgery on Tuesday as the margins around the tumour they removed weren't clear. The plan is to remove more and then send the sample of to America for testing as their equipment is far more advanced and they can tell whether or not I will benefit from Chemo. If not they they will proceed with radiotherapy and medication. They advised its grade 3. On a positive note the lymph nodes they removed were clear. Felt deflated yesterday but today is a new day! Hope you're ok xx
That's tough but at least they can correct it. I'm similar, my margins were adequate but it was in 1 of the 30 lymph nodes they took out. Get my results from Oncotype in 12 days. Waiting becomes a way of life and it defines life. I can't be bothered to do much. Chemo or not that is the question, such a lot to prepare for. Dog walking is about the most I do.
This is such a lifeline. Hope and prayers for us all to heal and do well. Xxx
Sorry to hear its spread to a lymph node. Try and stay positive. I know what you mean about not wanting to do much. I'm either all or nothing. Today is a nothing day but I'm trying not to be to hard on myself. Hopefully you won't need chemo. Please keep us updated on your journey. Sending positive thoughts to you xxx
Sorry the last reply wasn't meant for you. Me and technology don't mix. I'm with you on the dog walking. Let the men take responsibility lol. Oncotype is where they test the cells removed I believe to see whether you would benefit from chemotherapy, they used to just automatically give everyone chemo but it's mot always beneficial so they prefer to only give it if it will help if that makes sense. Fingers crossed for your results. Keep us posted xxx
Thank you! I’ve checked out Oncotype, emailed them direct. The test isn’t suitable for triple negative so I guess I just wait and see what my treatment plans are once the pathology comes back. I’m an impatient patient!
Boob healing nicely, underarm still nippy so popping an occasional painkiller, ibuprofen seems to do the trick nicely.
I hope all goes well for your repeat surgery and that clear margins achieved. Definitely will keep with the updates. It seems not so bad when you have people who understand to chat it all out with xx
