I had my op Thursday so a few days behind you. I’m at itchy stage, think that means I’m healing, fingers crossed. No painkillers now required, sleep patterns shot to pieces though. What are your next steps? I’m awaiting pathology results and decision by Tumour Committee on treatment pathway. I’m in Spain and it all seems to be a bit of a manana approach. I’m happy to take the time out to get over the op before it all goes a bit crazy. I’ve been diagnosed as triple negative grade 2, not sure on staging yet though.
Ochno I too am in Spain. Take heart that once the results are in, the health system over here is fabulous where treatment of cancer is concerned. Once they get a plan organised for you, your feet won't touch the ground!
I can only say the treatment I received was caring, speedy and incredibly efficient. Different departments actually liaising with one another too.
Keep resting lots, it's the best way to recovery. Once those staples are removed you will feel much more comfortable!

Ochno I was treated in San Juan hospital, near Alicante. Obviously I am being monitored for the next 10 years by them too.
It was when I went for preop assessment they discovered I had arrhythmia. Operation was immediately postponed, appointment made with cardiology within days. ECG and consultation, where they put me on medication, and said I needed to wait until the medication had kicked in before the cancer op could take place. It seemed an age, but in reality it was only about 2 weeks. I can't praise them highly enough, if they hadn't acted so efficiently and quickly my operation outcome could have been disastrous at best, lethal at worse. Since then, there have been conversations between the two departments regarding what medication and treatment I have going forward.
There are lots of things that are annoying and frustrating about certain aspects of Spanish life, but I can't criticise the healthcare the state have given me so far!
I hope you improve daily. Keep us all posted as to what further treatment ( if any) is decided for you? X
Thank you. It does sound as if they are on the ball and have managed your journey very smoothly. I’m hoping things get better for me. My Spanish still not up to handling all this under stress so that part difficult. I did have a private interpreter at the very beginning but that had its own difficulties so going solo and getting any assistance required through the volunteer interpreters desk at the hospital. I know radiotherapy planned and chemo mentioned before op, the pathology report will clarify. I’m triple negative so think both recommended as it’s an aggressive cancer. Going to see the nurse at my local health centre in the morning, need him to check underarm okay. Lymph node scar looking swollen and a little bit hot especially where the staples are. Oh the joys!
Ochno good luck at the health centre today. Very sensible to get these things checked out. I know I could never have handled all the appointments with consultants without an interpreter, the vocabulary is just too technical for me to have coped with, so I am in awe of you dealing with it solo!
Keep us posted as to how it goes with the nurse?
Hi there, my appointment was yesterday, all good. He checked it all over and cleaned it for me. He was super lovely. Turns out he is my surgeon’s friend, a small world. His English is very good so that was a big help. He’s taking stitches out next Tuesday, I’m sure he’ll be gentle with me. Be glad to get rid of the staples.
I may need an interpreter for the oncology consultations, yes way beyond my basic Spanish. I believe there is one consultant who has very fluent English, I’m hoping she is allocated to me. I’ll cross that bridge when it comes.
Thank you for your support, it means so much x
