I’m in my 50’s and had a routine mammogram beginning of Dec, they called me in for further tests and biopsy just before Xmas with results 6january of grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma. 48mm lump not yet in a lymph nodes. I have an appointment with surgeon on Tuesday but no further tests booked yet,  where I see others have had CT scans etc. I am worried about this moving too slow and wondering what’s in store. I have been prepared with the fact that I will have chemo , surgery , radiation but have to wait for the surgeons take one this.
care nurse has said it is all happing at correct pace but still concerned.

  • Hi.  I remember feeling exactly like this when I first got diagnosed.  It feels like everything is moving soooo slowly and between all the waiting to find out what's going on and waiting for appointments you're left with your mind racing and stressing over everything. I think its the hardest time when you're waiting for things to start.  I feel for you. I wonder if the reason they have not arranged a CT scan is because there is no lymph node involvement? I was given the impression when I had a CT scan that it was due to extensive lymph node involvement meaning they needed to check there wasn't spread to anywhere else? I could be wrong, just a thought.  Do you have a breast care nurse that you could contact to ask about this?

  • I do, yes, I did not know about these other tests, bone density, Ct etc so didn’t ask when I phoned but Hearing what others have had am concerned mine is moving too slow so wil phone

  • Thank you for responding

  • Hi

My breast cancer was also picked up through a routine mammogram and was also Grade 3.

I didn't have any scans between having the recall mammogram, followed by an ultrasound and biopsy, and having a lumpectomy about 3 weeks later.

I haven't had any scans since my lumpectomy and chemotherapy, except one to plan my radiotherapy treatment about a month ago.

I think that scans are only arranged if they feel they're necessary and, as everyone's treatment plan is tailored, they're not always needed.

  • Yeah good idea to phone.  The breast nurses are good for that point of contact when questions are on your mind.  Hope you get some answers.
