I was diagnosed with grade 2 invasive ductal carcinoma 28mm, in November 22. I am PR and ER positive, still waiting on HER2 results but suspecting I haven't heard anything it is negative. I am currently on Hormone blocking medication and was due for surgery on 5th Jan. However, my surgery was cancelled because I had covid over Christmas. My covid symptoms were very mild and I wouldn't of even tested if it hadn't been for my pre-op. I've now been waiting rwo weeks to get a new syrgery date but have heard nothing. I've phoned them several times trying to get some idea but all they can tell me is "maybe February". I'm obviously concerned at the length of time I may have in front of me and I am wondering how long is too long. And what risks do I have of my cancer spreading, especially to my lymph nodes while I'm waiting. I'm feeling very isolated and forgotten.
KarateGirl hello, firstly we’ve all felt isolated and forgotten at some point but we are all here together supporting one another so it’s good you have reached out .
You can read my bio to find out where I’m at right now.
I’d keep pushing and calling them re your new surgery date, from what I’ve heard from others a few extra weeks isn’t massive but the sooner you start the sooner it’s out and you can have a plan which massively helps calm anxiety and concerns. xx
Push them for the surgery date just becase that will help you get on with the rest of your life. My surgery was delayed by 4 weeks after having Covid (Stage 2 Grade 3 IDC 15mm) but the surgeon was pretty much clear that Covid (as with any respiratory infection) has too many risks for general anaesthetic - particularly around clots and mortality - so on balance, I had to accept that it was worth waiting the 4 clear weeks. (There's always something to worry about in this process, nothing seems straightforward.) There were a few other delays with one thing or another, but the surgeon was always very clear that the waits would "do me no harm" and sometimes you have to trust them. Fortunately my IDC wasn't found in my lymph nodes.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
