Hi,

newbie breast cancer patient, though worked in NHS supporting cancer patients for 6 years so far, but totally different this side of the "journey"

Finished radiotherapy on 23rd December, struggling to wear a bra for any length of time but want to start exercising & local pool shut at the moment, so wondering if anyone has any "braless" exercises they'd recommend

thanks

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the forum. I resorted to soft crop tops during and just after radiotherapy as I felt the need for some support but didn’t want anything tight. My exercise was simply walking, building up my fitness that way. It’s become my sanity saver! Many months after, following a diagnosis of breast lympheodema, I took up Nordic walking on the advice of the specialist nurse. I’m still doing it 3 and a half years later. But I’m dashing ahead - during and after rads it was just walking, apart from the post op exercises which I continued to do for many weeks.
Sorry you find yourself here but it’s a great place for support and shared experiences. I’m sure others will pop on with helpful suggestions. 4 years down the line I’m probably fitter than I’ve been since my teenage years, recently joined a gym for the first time and of course continue walking. I’m mainly to be found on the Walking back to happiness thread here.
Wishing you well and sending a big virtual hug your way, HFxx

  • Just to add, if you feel you can’t wear any form of ‘support’ maybe better to stick to the type of exercises for those with limited mobility? Eg ones you can do while sitting or lying down? Only because you’ll want to avoid juggling the affected breast around I think. By the time I saw the lympheodema nurse (about 12 weeks post rads) I was back to wearing my soft post op bras but she said they didn’t offer much support so I went to M and S and got fitted with better ones that were also seam free to avoid the pitting that I was getting from any seams. And I got a decent sports bra for the Nordic walking and any other more rigorous exercise. Xx
