I had my routine mammogram just before we moved house, just after we exchanged contracts I was recalled, and as you can guess the blob on the X-ray was indeed cancer. I’m waiting for test results to decide on lumpectomy / mastectomy etc. I was given the option of transferring my care to a hospital closer to home, but decided the hour drive was worth it for continuity of care, and because the hospital is currently meeting government targets 100%. I’m now praying the unions and government realise what they’re putting patients through and find a way to resolve the strikes as I’m really worried how it might impact on my care.
Hello CarrieDecember,
Firstly sorry to hear your diagnosis. I was diagnosed in October after a routine mammogram, I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy early December.
I have had no problems at all with appointments and was at the hospital yesterday to see the BC nurse. I’m led to believe that NHS staff will be available to see urgent cases and cancer patients.
Try not to worry about appointments, you will be seen and taken good care of. A cancer diagnosis is a huge worry without having to worry about treatment and whether there will be any staff to see you.
Good luck with your journey xx
