I was diagnosed with multifocail er positive breast cancer beginning of Nov 22 and had a left breast mastectomy 2 weeks ago. Was so emotional and scared for the mastectomy and have been recovering well. Now been told will probably need chemo following my histology results. Have my appt with oncologist on Wednesday but feeing so scared and anxious about chemo. The mastectomy was a breeze in the park and did not have any negative feeling. I have 3 kids youngest is 3 and twins are 9. I been told chemo may be 20 weeks feel like so long. So scared. Any advice on how to deal with chemo. I no it sound silly but so scared about losing my hair.
Any tips and advise will be great.
Hi Rani21, sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I have just started chemo, 4 of EC followed by 4 of Docetaxel. In total about 20 weeks too. I was scared about losing my hair. I tried the scalp cooling cap and whilst it is cold and feels a bit uncomfortable I found it ok to do. It has good write ups about percentage of hair loss and you may feel this might help. It might be worth having a chat with your oncologist or BCN about the options. I think chemo is scary as we don’t know what really to expect as everyone is different. There are lots of options to cover hair loss. If you have a Maggies or Macmillan Centre near you, they can help with giving advice about wigs and lots of other ideas and websites that offer various types of hats with hair, scarves with hair etc. to help. Have you managed to talk with your children? I know they are very young and it may not be so easy for them to understand. My kids are older and understand, I hope that there are some others who maybe could help and let you know how they explained it to their little ones.
Wishing you all the best on your journey.

Thanks Cuffcake for the advice. Will speak to my oncologist on Wednesday about the cold cap.
Hi Rani21 good to hear your're recovering from the surgery, but sorry you need chemo. I lost my hair and whilst that was emotional at first, I took the opportunity to get a wig that was completely different, and I really loved it. Many people though do choose a wig similar to their own style and the quality is fab these days.
I hope you don't mind me also sharing this link, which gives some ideas on telling children and maybe you find it helpful. Best wishes
