Hi all , please could o get some advice on what to use for radiation burns , it's so sore and painful , it's on and around my booby and under my armpit , I've googled but results are very conflicting , my last radiotherapy session was last Wednesday , I'd appreciate any advice on how to alleviate this pain and discomfort, thanks in advance. Take care xxx
Hi Jessie marvo, sorry to hear you’re in pain from radiation burns.I was advised to contact the radiotherapy department if I had any issues for up to 2 weeks after I finished. They said they’d be better placed to advise than a GP or practice nurse who may have never seen radiation burns before. So if you’re able to do so, that would be my first port of call. Otherwise I’ve certainly seen Flamigel mentioned by others here. I had some weird skin effects (redness particularly under the breast, and ‘scales’ over much of it as well as a very painful nipple) but they did eventually resolve. Hope you can get some relief very soon. I’m just going to tag the lovely Exraygirl as she usually has great advice to offer. Love and hugs, HFxx
Hi
Please contact your radiotherapy department nurses as they can assess your skin and give you the correct dressings and creams or they can ring your gp and get them prescribed for you.
The areas that have broken down are the areas where there is friction ie under your boob and armpit so ditch the bra if you have been wearing one. If you can sit with your arm propped up ie watching tv and let some air get to it it will help.
You are coming into the time now of peak reaction…. 10 to 14 days after RT so things should start to resolve soon. Most people find their skin is completely healed in 4 to 6 weeks.
In the meantime taking some of your normal painkillers should help to take the edge off the soreness.
I hope you feel better soon x
I feel your pain , I had a bad skin reaction, I was prescribed flamigel RT to use & also a fragrance free moisturiser on alternate days. I took 6 weeks to clear up & skin to stop peeling. I also took some paracetamol in the early days.
I also put a fan on to cool my skin down before I went to bed.
Loose fitting cotton clothes & try & leave bra off as much as possible.
Hopefully you will start to improve soon. Take care
Best wishes x
Jessie thanks for putting this, I had my second session today but I am grateful to everyone who has made comments as it's difficult to know what to expect and what to do. I'm feeling a bit more prepared I think after reading the replies.
