Newly diagnosed with breast cancer

Hi everybody,

I'm new to this forum. I found a lump in my breast at the end of August and was told On 28th September I had a hormonal type of breast cancer. I'm still waiting to see the oncologist but I have been told I will have to have chemo and surgery. I have chronic kidney disease so they are deciding what to do to try and protect my kidney function.

I'm scared I'll end up on dialysis. I had a perforated bowel last May and was very ill. I woke up from surgery with a colostomy which I'm told is permanent. I'm still getting over that really. I have my first appointment with the Oncologist on Friday which is a relief as I'm hoping I will have a treatment plan now. I think they're going to try to shrink the tumour prior to surgery.

thanks for reading this

  • Your team will be used to dealing with pre existing conditions and will tailor your treatment plan accordingly.  Maybe write a list of questions to ask at your appointment on Friday xx

  • Thanks Carol I will take your advice. I'm hoping my stress levels will get a bit  better once I know what's happening. Xx

  • Hi Unagh

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  Things should start to improve for you once you have your treatment plan in place.

Wishing you the best of luck with your oncologist's appointment on Friday.

    Best wishes

  • Ah thanks so much Daisy. It's great to have this forum I live alone and it's quite isolating I've found. Too much time to think.  Is it normal to feel guilty about telling others? On a brighter note I'm lucky to have the Linda Mcartney unit in my area. They've been amazing. Best of luck to you all and catch you later.

  • Hi Unagh

Yes it's normal to feel guilty about telling others about your cancer even though you shouldn't. xxx
