Hello
This is my first time on any online forum, so I'm not quite sure how it all works. I got diagnosed with breast cancer last month. It is in both breasts. Operation this Friday (wide incision both sides and removal of two lymph nodes on both sides). I'm feeling quite scared, particularly about how I'll cope with the recovery. Also, I haven't told my children as I don't want to upset them and I'm slightly worried about not making it obvious that I am recovering from surgery. (They are going to their grandparents for a few days whilst surgery is happening.). Any advice on recovering from surgery greatly received, particularly about coping with pain.
Thank you.
Hi. I had a WLE on one breast and a reduction on the other but was surprised that it wasn't particularly painful; I only took paracetamol for a day or two and could probably have managed without it. (The glue was very itchy though). You haven't said how old your twins are but I'm guessing they're beyond the having to be picked up stage; don't lift anything heavy and do the exercises that are recommended.
Best wishes
Thank you so much. That is so helpful to hear. I'm glad that your surgery went well and I hope that you are continuing to recover well. Thank you again.
Hi TwinMumBoys,
I took paracetamol and ibuprofen for a few days to help and then eased myself off them gradually, I am a wuss with pain. Its now almost 3 weeks since I had my op (lumpectomy and sentinel lymph nodes) and just have the odd paracetamol mainly cause I do too much. I know its difficult if you have young children but do listen to your body, and yes Like Sapphire says don't lift anything heavy (I still get help with that) and continue with the exercises, they really do help. Its great the grandparents are helping. My children are 12 & 15 so we have explained everything to them so they know what's happening. This may be an option for you but it depends on how old you twins are and if you feel comfortable explaining it to them. There might be a book available on how to explain things to young children which might help, or perhaps other people on the forum may be able to give tips on how they explained it to their children. Good luck with your recovery and treatment plan. You can click on peoples names to see what they have been going through on their journey, you may find that helpful too. We are all here to support each other.
