Calcifications found in right breast

Hi all,

I am new to this site.

I recently had a mammogram and have been recalled for further investigation and possibly a biopsy.

My mammogram detected calcifications in my right breast. I will be attending the hospital on Friday.

I am so concerned and nervous and do not know what to expect.

In 2017 I was diagnosed with VIN3, it’s a pre cancerous condition of the vulva and I had a wide local excision. I’m still under the hospital and get seen twice a year for check ups to make sure it has not come back.

This was all I needed, I know they may find nothing, but it does not stop you worrying.

I’m a 62 year old woman.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

  • In May 2015 age 51 I was recalled from my first rountine screening mammogram for 2 areas of calcification (10mm & 5mm).   I was diagnosed with intermediate DCIS in the 10mm area only.  The smaller area was benign.  I had a WLE in July and 15 sessions of radiotherapy in September.  11mm high grade DCIS was final diagnosis after surgery.

Nov 2021.  Now on 3 year routine screening.  Recalled for magnifying mammogram to check calcifications.  After stressful week find out they just being ultra cautious and all is good.

So calcifications can be benign.  I had repeat mammogram- they magnify the affected areas then determine if biopsy needed.  If no biopsy they may monitor you and repeat tests in 6/12 months.

  • Thank you Carol for your reply. I’m keeping everything crossed Fingers crossed

  • Yes do.  Remember on this site members who like yourself were awaiting tests and then had a good result do not stick around so answers skewed from being from those who did have a cancer diagnosis.
