  • Hi

I was diagnosed with TNBC earlier this year and I'm currently going through chemotherapy after having a lumpectomy at the end of April.

What type of chemo is your wife having? I had 3 cycles of epirubicin and cyclophosphamide, commonly referred to as EC, and I'm currently halfway through 12 cycles of paclitaxel.

With EC I felt 'under the weather' (a bit like I was coming down with a cold) for the first 11/12 days and then felt fine for the remaining 9/10 days. With paclitaxel I feel tired on the evening of having the infusion but then feel fine for the rest of the week.

    Happy to answer any questions.

  • Hi, sorry to hear your wife's diagnosis. I too was diagnosed with triple negative in November 2021, started chemo Xmas eve, finished April. I was on FEC and docetaxel. I coped better on FEC than docetaxel. Side effects I had were, loss of all body hair even nose hair so my nose used to stream and I had watery eyes, the feeling of total tiredness for the first 3-4 days after 1st session then began to feel better. Sore mouth (ulcers) change in taste, so invest in some boiled sweets and drink plenty of fluids to flush chemo out after having treatments. Dry skin or blotchy, change in finger and toe nails. Obvious feeling nausea but nurses on chemo ward will give all medication that she needs to cope with side effects. Take temperature regular to watch for signs of infection as blood levels will dip. Everybody is different with how they cope and what side effects they get. It may be scary and its the unknown, well it was for me, but it's doable. Get all the rest she needs to get through it and best of luck in her future treatments, sending virtual hugs. Xx

  • Hiya, yes it is a cruel disease but the treatments available now are amazing and the medical team give the best treatment tailored to each individual. Drink plenty fluids and rest, listen to the body, give plenty of support and care she'll get through it. Best of luck xx
