Hello,
I am 20 years old and I noticed pain and swelling in my breast. I went to the GP who obviously examined me. He found a lump and has referred me to the breast clinic. I thought it could be just an infection like peridot mastitis but upon research I came across inflammatory breast cancer and learned the symptom are very similar to each other and a GP will refer you if they think it us unlikely to be an infection. I am aware inflated breast cancer is rare but how rare is it? I know I shouldn't think the worst and I know it is probably just an infection but I am wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with either and could offer some advice please?
Kind Regards - Bloomz
Hi Bloomz, welcome to the forum. Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare subtype of cancer and it is around 2-4% of all breast cancers. I know that you will be so worried just now until you are seen at the breast clinic. It is best not to go googling things as some of the statistics are out of date as they have come so far with treatments. It may be mastitis as ibc doesn't always have a lump but can sometimes. I was diagnosed with it in January and it presented with pinkness/redness over more than one third of the breast, it markedly grew bigger and the nipple was inverted. The skin itself looked like an orange peel as the cancer was also in the skin. I was treated with chemotherapy first then the mastectomy and radiation. If it is ibc or another breast cancer you will feel better when a plan is in place Hun. There is always hope <3 Please let me know how you get on. Jxxx
Hi I had my last herceptin/trastuzamab injection on Friday there which was the end of active treatment and I am now on 10 years of hormone blockers as I was er/pr and her 2 positive. So I think now the healing really starts as I am still really sore from the mastectomy and radiation. Find a positive in every day hun. Please keep in touch. Jxxx
