I have lymphoedema in my breast having had lumpectomy and node clearance. I am concerned about having the Lllt treatment as it is meant to boost cells which should improve lymph drainage but what if it boost any cancer cells which have not been killed off completely and gives them the boost they need to recover. Has anyone else had this treatment or have any knowledge about it. I am supposed to start it in a week but am really nervous about it.
Hi Maxwell3, sorry I don’t know the answer to your question as I haven’t heard of this treatment. If it’s been recommended by the lympheodema nurse or breast clinic it should surely be safe? You could post this in the ‘Ask a nurse’ section here? I have breast lympheodema after radiotherapy and was referred to the local lympheodema service. The specialist nurse advised properly supportive bras, showed me some simple lymphatic drainage massage (but I found it tricky) and that I should start Nordic walking or aqua aerobics. I chose the Nordic walking, did a course and am still walking with a lovely group of people 3 years later! The walking technique definitely helped and I’ve managed to control it mainly with that. Apart from one flare up of possible cellulitis it’s mainly behaved itself. But mine is considered ‘mild’, I don’t know about your situation.
Could you phone your breast clinic and ask advice there? It’s clearly a worry for you and you need reassurance that it’s the right treatment. Hope you get some answers this week, love and hugs, HFxx
