Hi so i got my biopsy results last Friday after finding a lump in left breast , ultra sound and mammogram found 2 lumps ! Only one has cancer ! They say it’s hormone receptive positive  but her2 negative ! Next is mri then lumpectomy and  lymph node removal ! I’m 43 so they mentioned a possibility of chemo (I’m hoping not ) after googling lots of things I just wanted to reach out to maybe people who have or have had similar ! I think from google perhaps I’ll go on some kind of hormone blocker type tablets after ? Would this be different if I had been through menopause ? As I’m uncertain ( sounds silly) a couple of years ago I woke up to a lot of blood then after my periods phased off to almost nothing , I was always light anyway but never did go to the doctors about it , at about the same time I had a bit of night sweats so wondering if this could of been that? ( my older sister who is now 60) never had typical menopause she also woke up to a lot of blood one day and nothing after and a few sweats and that was that !! So I don’t know but I went onto mini pill and then obviously had no periods since ! Anyway I’m just wondering if this is something I should mention ? And if it would affect treatment ? And also is there a way to check.  Sorry for the essay !

  • Hi Notme

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  It's not a good idea to google treatment options as the information is often out of date.  You would be better off relying on sites like this one and Breast Cancer where the information is up to date than google.  While i won't say chemo is easy it is doable.  If you need chemo you will get medication to help counteract any possible side effects.

I can't say about the hormone blockers as my cancer was triple negative. Hopefully someone with experience of hormone blocker tablets will be along shortly with an answer for you.

Best of luck with your treatment whatever it will be.

  • Thankyou ! I know googling is not the best option I just feel like I need to find out as much as I can x

  • I'm on tamoxifen.  Just started so I'm about 2 weeks in.   So far I haven't noticed side effects but I have noticed my hot sweats aren't as bad which is odd but lovely.

  • Hi, I also had hormone receptor +, her2 -, breast cancer. I had mastectomy, chemo and have been on Tamoxifen for about six weeks now, I think they decided to give me the chemo as I had a positive lymph node and have not been through the menopause yet. Chemo wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and I used a cold cap so kept most of my hair, they give you medication to take home for the side effects. As far as I know they give you Tamoxifen if you haven’t been through the menopause, I’ve got to have a blood test in a few years to see if I’ve been through it and then they’re going to change me onto another drug. Try and stay away from google, I scared myself silly doing that when I was first diagnosed. The doctors will do whatever’s best for you & I rang my bc nurse quite a lot with questions at the beginning.

  • Thankyou can I ask why you had mastectomy rather than lumpectomy? They think mine is quite small 17mm by 16mm but they said it’s quite deep whatever that means? Sounds like things are going well

    for you now ? X

  • I’ve only got small boobs so the lumpectomy would of left them quite uneven so it was my decision. The tamoxifen seems to be ok so far I don’t seem to have any side effects apart from insomnia but I had that before any of this started anyway so most probably not the tablets. Hope all goes well with your lumpectomy

  • Oh ok sorry I hope you didn’t mind me asking , it’s just a lot to take in isn’t it and finding others who have been through a similar situation I think might help . Thanks for you’re reply all the best

  • That’s ok. It’s a situation you hope you’d never be in. I had to stop myself googling things but whenever I saw the doctor I could never think of any questions to ask & the only ones I could think of I wasn’t sure I wanted to know the answer to.

  • Hi Notme, I too have been told mine is quite deep against my chest wall and it was challenging with the Stereotactic BIopsy! Mine is 21mm x 17mm and I am booked in for a WLE with Radiotherapy afterwards. Unless of course the results from surgery change things. This is a scary road to be on and I’m finding myself getting tearful a lot but everyone on here has been lovely and sharing experiences can help I guess..Karen x

  • They didn’t tell

how deep it was just that it was deeper than usual! Good luck with surgery
