Hi, I’m new to the group. I’m still feeling a bit in shock as everything has happened so quickly.

sorry for long post.

I went for a routine mammogram (I’m 56) and got a letter to go back a week later. I didn’t feel too concerned as I’d had a breast cyst 8 years ago and thought it might be that.
I soon realised that this was different and after core biopsy on 2cm mass and stereo guided biopsy on an 4cm area of calcifications. I was given an appointment for 10days later as I was going on holiday the next day.
I tried to put it out of my mind on holiday and told myself that as they said it was really deep and not in the usual place it must be something else.

So, 2 weeks ago I was told it was invasive, grade 2 cancer but the good news was that calcifications were benign. Since then I’ve had a radioactive seed planted and then breast conserving surgery on the inner, lower quadrant mass with a sentinel lymph node biopsy. I’m recovering from the surgery quite well although I am tired on the afternoons. I know I’m extremely  lucky that everything has been dealt with  so quickly but I still feel a like I haven’t got my head around it yet.

They are hoping for radiotherapy and hormone treatment to follow but I’ll find out next Tuesday when I see consultant again.

thanks x

  • So sorry for your recent diagnosis.

It is a lot to take in and no wonder you have been feeling tired with all that has been happening.

It is good news that you have been treated so quickly with just radiotherapy and hormone treatment to come.

Wishing you all the best and sending a hug xx

  • Sending a hug too.  I felt like I had been hit by a train.  I still don't think this is happening to me but I look in the mirror and I don't see me any more so it must be

    Xx

  • Thank you for your reply. I keep feeling like because it happened so quick that I didn’t get chance to look into things so I could ask questions.  X x

  • Thanks for replying.

I go back on Tuesday so fingers crossed they’ve got good margins and lymph nodes clear then I can move on to the treatment.

    X x

  • I think however well you're prepared there are always a couple of questions you forget to ask.

The breast Nurses are always there to ask and will answer them for you.

    Take care.
