Hi
i have just received a stage 2 breast cancer diagnosis. I was initially told that a lumpectomy was likely but then the biopsy showed up oestrogen and HER2 positive. I’m expecting a confirmed treatment plan this week, but have been told that it’s likely to be surgery (lumpectomy or mastectomy) plus chemo and targeted drug therapies.
Once I heard the chemo word, I fell apart. I wish I could turn back time. I can cope with anything but that.
I want to be informed and am particularly interested if chemo is absolutely necessary? People keep telling me I have to make the right decisions for me but I don’t know if that’s a way of telling me to challenge the chemo route.
Thank you
I have a different cancer (triple negative) but it’s my understanding that the targeted therapies they use to address HER2 positive cancers are initially given alongside chemo.
