Ok - so successful surgery now for radiotherapy & drug treatment. Can anyone advise about which drug they would recommend & any side effects you have experienced. I have a choice of tamoxifen or letrozole - both have potential nasty side effects, but so does asprin! Would be grateful for advice please Slight smile

  • I have been taking letrozole for 2 months now and have had several side effects. I only agreed to try it for a 3 month trial. Having spoken with my unsupportive gp I am stopping it. Its personal choice and the oncologist cant force you to take hhormone. I am unsure of effects of tamoxifen but discuss your concerns with the oncologist when you see them.

  • Thank you - hope you get sorted quickly.

  • Hello! I've been on tamoxifen for 5 months now. I have to say it's not been fun as I've had a couple of really annoying side effects (mainly nausea, hot flushes and insomnia), but that could also be my age (50). I'm also taking venlafaxine which helps with hot flushes, anxiety and insomnia.

On the plus side, I've lost the 2 stone that I never shifted after having kids ;-)

  • Hi, am taking anastrazole, which is similar to letrozole. I was on tamoxifen, but as high recurrence risk, anastrazole or letrozole are more effective for me. Hormone therapy affects people differently - some have virtually no side effects and some have a lot. I found tamoxifen to be an easier drug and I only really had hot flushes. The anastrazole makes me really tired and causes dryness of the skin and internally too. If you look up menopausal symptoms, that pretty much gives you the list of side effects. The coatings of the tablets affect the side effects too and it may be trial and error to work out which brands suit you.. But I would rather have the side effects knowing that I am doing all I can to stop the cancer from coming back. I guess you can try one and see how you get on. There is the option to change if you don't get on with your hormone therapy.

  • Thanks for that info - I guess it's a case of trial & error.
