I found a lump in my breast and to cut out all the details, it was found I had three lumps and had a mastectomy. I'm 71 and all I know, at this stage, is that I had my breast removed with cancer.
That was at the beginning of August. I've been back to see the surgeon and was told that all but two of my results have come back. As I understand it, they are markers. They seemed to be pleased with the results so far but wil not rule out the need for chem or radio therapy.
I haven't be been told what category the cancer is. I am , I think, of average intelligence and it feels that they are treating or thinking of me as a little old lady. I want to be informed. Before I retired I was a qualified therapist so I do have the absorb and filter information.
I find, so far, all these diagnoses and terminologies on here and I haven't a clue what is being discussed. Please help me and maybe other newbies to understand. But then again, maybe it's just me! Thank you everyone.
Also can you suggest what questions I should be asking at my next appointment, whenever that will be?
Hi Marynora
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with breast.
The reason they haven't ruled out chemo and or radiotherapy yet is because they need to have all your results back so that they can tailor your treatment to your particular type of breast cancer as everybody's treatment pathway is unique to them. There are so many different types of breast that it's no wonder that you are confused about what's being discussed on this forum.
One to the questions you should ask is what type of breast cancer you have. If you want to know it, also ask them what the prognosis is. Another question to ask at your next appointment is are there any trials that I can go on.
Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your appointment.
Best of luck with any further treatment you may have.
Best wishes
