Hi. Good morning. I’ve just started on the ad cal d3 caplets and found I felt a bit nauseous. I know you have to avoid certain foods for two hours before and after taking them, but can anyone recommend any food they’ve eaten at the same time as taking the caplets to avoid nausea please?
Hi Hilfe22
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. While I didn't have to take ad cal d3 caplets I noticed that you haven't had any replies yet so I thought I'd reply to you to bump you up to the top of the discussion.
Wishing you the best of luck.
Best wishes

Hi Hilfe22
I have been taking them for some time. In the morning I eat overnight oats with blueberries and almond milk. So far ive not had any issues iwth nausea. At night time, I take one before bed, that way I know ive not eaten anything for a few hours, and again im fine. Talk to your team, they may suggest other stuff. Im now taking them long term as my surgeon says i need them daily for the time being.
I've been on AdCal D3, 1 a day, since I was first diagnosed, some 20mths ago now. Mine are not caplets though, they are big lozenge things that you dissolve in your mouth, tutti fruitti flavour (reasonably nice). I've never had a problem with them - I take them after dinner or late evening with nothing at all, just a gulp of water after to wash down the remaining gritty bits. But the avoidance of some foods before & after is new to me, I've never been told that. I wonder if it's caplet-specific.
I was prescribed Evacal D3 recently- one chewable tablet twice a day, they taste like 'Love Heart' sweets, I haven't had any nausea, but I am concerned about the amount of sweeteners contained in these tablets as I don't have them in my diet. I'm on letrozole, bone scan this year gave a FRAX score of 11% (waited 12 weeks for results), recommendation was supplementary calcium, I refused bisphosphonate.
I've used the calculator on the Osteoporosis Society website which gave my calcium score as above the required daily dose on my food/drink intake only. I'm worried about excess calcium as my intake with these tablets is now 2,000mg. Despite my healthy diet (honest), I had kidney stone surgery six months ago and supplementary calcium is contra-indicated for stone susceptibility, two of these tablets a day=1200mg. I feel it would be easier to make a decision to reduce or stop taking the calcium if I could actually speak to/see a GP to get some guidance on all this, it takes countless tries just to get an eConsult, far less a routine appointment. (Excuse my moaning, peeved I've not had a face to face GP appointment at all despite two red flags last year!)
