Hi, I had my breast clinic appointment this week after seeing my GP. After a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies I was told that my lump is 'highly suspicious', probably cancer. I will receive the biopsy results on 19th August. I also have to have a bone scan and CAT scan but they won't have the results by then. I have also had to stop all my HRT. So I am now in a whirlwind of fear and anxiety about cancer. And worried about how my body is going to react to the sudden drop in hormones. I'm 55 but have no idea if I'm perimenopausal or post- menopausal because I've been on the pill since 19 due to polycystic ovaries. So I have never known what, if any natural periods I have. To top all this off I live alone. My brother lives hours away. My Mum is in a care home with dementia, also hours away. So although I have the support of friends I feel very alone. Worried about having an operation for the first time, how long would I be in hospital, how much care at home would I need afterwards. If I have more treatment will I be able to drive for 3 hours to visit my Mum, etc. etc. Too many wor

Hi, I'm in the same position as you, I went to my doctor because of a pain I have in my left breast as I've already been diagnosed with another rare cancer called GIST which is gastro intestinal stromal tumours the doctor sent me for an ultrasound I also had a mammogram and a biopsy on the same day, the biopsy came back positive for stage 2 breast cancer for which I'm having an operation for on Monday I was told that op will take about 1 and 1/2 hours, and I will be home the same day I was also told to stop taking my Hrt and to have my coil removed, thankfully I have been fine with no meno symptoms so far. I've also got to have 5 sessions of radiotherapy 6 weeks after the operation, hope this helps everything will be OK for you xx
Thank-you so much for replying! I pictured an operation taking so much longer. That doesn't seem so scary. And you go home the same day, that's amazing. I hope it all goes well for you. Please post an update when you feel up to it
Hi
Sorry that you find yourself here.
If you do have to have surgery they will ask you to have someone stay with you overnight if you go home. If you are alone they would keep you overnight.
I was advised not to drive for two weeks after the op ( lumpectomy) or until you can comfortably do an emergency stop.
I was in theatre 9am and home by 3pm.There was no real pain . I just felt tired afterwards for a couple of days.I bought some soft bras to wear in bed to stop my boob pulling.
Fingers crossed you don’t need this information
Good luck to you and ShazzE going forward.
x
Bookworm2022 this is understandably a worrying time. Take each day as it comes. I've also just stopped HRT following a diagnosis. There's lots of good information sources out there (also lots of rubbish) to help you understand things and work through what's right for you.
I am so sorry to hear your news. All I can say is at the beginning before the diagnosis the waiting is the hardest, the only advice I can give is it is the best cancer you can get and there will be a solution. It will be ok and you will get through this! I feel your pain I have been there. Please try not to worry! x
Thank-you. You so right. I'm constantly veering from surprise, it's not cancer. To, sorry it's the absolute worst form and we cannot treat it. It's exhausting.
Hi, just thought I'd let you know I've had my operation the tumour and some lymph nodes taken, I'm a bit sore but not as bad as I thought it would be, just waiting for results from lymph node biopsy now
