Hi gang, I guess this is my place to be for a while. I have been told I have Grade 2 Invasive Lobular cancer today and have been given a date for lumpectomy and auxillary node clearance. Ultrasound saw one affected node but guess there could be more. Won't know until after the surgery. And then await staging. I can cope with the thought of surgery and even radio therapy and hormone treatment, but dread chemo if they find more affected nodes.
1.5 cm tumor
1 affected node (so far from ultrasound and biopsy)
MRI coming up
Staging comes after
Would be grateful to hear from others in similar situations having had their staging and confirmed treatment plan! Just want to prepare myself if the dreaded chemo will be needed although I get it's based on individual circumstances.
I'm a fit 48 year old gal and don't do 'sick' very well. Like to keep active and want to stay that way!!
Thanks
Hi
I did the same - I couldn’t work out how my small 18mm lump had got to a lymph node so quickly and went head first down that dark hole! But my BCN was lovely and really reassured me.
it’s exactly 12 weeks since I got the news it was only the 1 lymph node affected, 14 weeks since I had the op and I did a 5k run this morning. It was very slow but it was still 5k. Another little victory on the road back to fitness.
Cazza- so sorry to hear this news but, as you say, you are young and fit and, with a positive head on, you can get through aanything! As Mazz says, one step at a time.
anyway, today I am lying on the sofa, 8 days post a mastectomy and DIEP flap reconstruction and genuinely can’t believe I how not-crap I feel. I elected the extreme surgery route exactly because I was young(ish) -46 so was hoping it would be a faster recovery. And, so far, so good.
the waiting bit is the worst but then you can start kicking it’s arse… you can do this!
Thanks for responding. That's encouraging to hear. Did you have any lymph node involvement or waiting for news? I asked for a double mast but they said no!!!
Hi Cazza, I was lucky, I had the lymph node biopsy before Xmas and no involvement.
I asked for a double mastectomy too but they also said no. Hey, at least I got one!
You do know what is best for you though, so if you feel really strongly about something, please do try to push for it.
Am keeping everything crossed for you….
